A new cinematic documentary has revealed Ryan Giggs’s immediate reaction to being appointed interim Manchester United manager last April.
The Red Devils legend was asked by chief executive Ed Woodward to take charge of the club for the final four games of the season following David Moyes’s dismissal.
Giggs was named as caretaker manager during the same period when the midfielder was being filmed for ‘Life of Ryan’, a film celebrating his decorated United career.
And the Welshman is captured digesting his new role during the one hour 21-minute fly-on-the-wall documentary, revealing his inner-most thoughts in the immediate aftermath of his appointment.
“We lost against Everton. On Monday, we had the day off and you can hear your phone going and getting texts,” Giggs said in ‘Life of Ryan’.
“Different people asking if I’ve heard anything. I don’t use social media or read the newspaper so I didn’t know what was going on. Apparently that was how all the rumours started [that] the manager was going to leave.”
Giggs continued: “Ed Woodward told me they were letting the manager go. Obviously it was sad to hear because you don’t want anyone to lose their job.
“He went on to ask me if I wanted to take charge for the final four games. I didn’t hesitate. I was happy and thrilled to do. It has been a crazy day.
“I haven’t had time to sit down and think about it. Maybe it will hit me later in the week, or when I get into the press conference, or get into the stadium for the game.
“You’re outside your comfort zone. It is a strange experience. I might not be the right man, I might not be ready.”
