Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has been a difficult one, defined by a long and frustrating pursuit of a new forward.

The Magpies have reached an impasse in their negotiations for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, forcing the club to pivot to a new primary target.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and his team are turning their attention to other targets.

The decision to move on from Wissa is a clear signal of the club’s desire to add firepower to their squad, especially with the uncertain future of their star forward, Alexander Isak, still unresolved.

Newcastle are determined to secure a forward who can contribute immediately in the Premier League.

Newcastle United pivot to Jorgen Strand Larsen transfer

Jorgen Strand Larsen is now firmly in Newcastle’s sights.

According to The Athletic, the club has a “firm interest” in the Norwegian striker and has already held talks with intermediaries to get a deal done.

While a formal bid has yet to be tabled, the 25-year-old is reportedly keen on a move to St. James’ Park.

This move comes after a long-running saga for Yoane Wissa has reached an end, with Newcastle officially walking away from a deal.

The Magpies’ latest bid of £40 million was rejected by Brentford, who are holding out for a staggering £60 million.

The vast difference in valuation, coupled with Brentford’s firm stance, made it clear that a deal for the 28-year-old was no longer a viable option.

Instead, it seems as though Strand Larsen is the next target, with some hope that Newcastle can strike a deal for the Wolves star.

He has plenty of attributes that the Magpies will like, adding some much-needed firepower to the team.

How does Jorgen Strand Larsen match up to Newcastle target Yoane Wissa

The Magpies’ pursuit of the Wolves forward is a clear indication of their evolving transfer strategy.

Jorgen Strand Larsen offers a different profile from Wissa, providing Eddie Howe with a versatile option up front.

The Norwegian striker had an impressive debut season in the Premier League, scoring 14 goals in 35 top-flight appearances.

His physicality and hold-up play are his biggest strengths, with Magpies legend Alan Shearer praising his “superb” touch and control.

Speaking on Match of the Day last season, he said: “His hold-up play was excellent,” Shearer said after Strand Larson bagged the winner against Ipswich Town in April, “his touch and control were superb.”

Wissa, on the other hand, is a more dynamic and pacy forward who thrives in open space.

While both players are prolific goal scorers, the six-foot-four Strand Larsen offers a more traditional No. 9 profile, a role that Newcastle are in desperate need of.

By pursuing the Wolves striker, the club is making a pragmatic decision to secure a player who is already Premier League-proven and fits the team’s immediate needs.
