Mark Hughes has insisted he is at Queens Park Rangers for the long haul – regardless of whether the London outfit are relegated.
The 48-year-old replaced Neil Warnock as QPR boss in January but has only managed to guide his side to two wins in nine games, leaving the Hoops in 18th place and a point from safety with eight games to play.
“I’ve said time and time again I’m here to do a job and to build a club, making sure QPR in the long-term is a healthier club on and off the pitch,” said Hughes.
“That’s still my aim, and irrespective of what happens, I fully expect to be here trying to make that happen.
“First and foremost we want to stay in the Premier League. It’s vitally important for everybody and that’s what we’re all working towards.”
QPR will be desperate to secure a precious three points against Arsenal at Loftus Road on Saturday to keep in touch with Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers.
However, Hughes denied his could struggle financially should they be relegated, insisting the deals handed to their January signings were made with all eventualities taken into consideration.
“The contracts were drawn up and offered to players on the view that we want to stay up in the Premier League and the players we targeted would help us to that end,” Hughes added.
“But obviously there was always a risk and a different side to what could happen.
“But I’m sure the contracts wouldn’t have been offered in the first place if anybody felt that it put the future of the club at risk.
“I know for a fact that’s not the case and the owner Tony Fernandes would never do that to QPR because that’s not what he’s about.”
