Steven Gerrard is confident Liverpool will still finish in the Premier League’s top four despite a disappointing 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
The Reds were 3-1 winners against Everton in the Merseyside derby last weekend as their top-six rivals Arsenal and Manchester United dropped points.
Jose Mourinho’s side could only muster a 1-1 draw with the Toffees at Old Trafford on Tuesday night which provided Liverpool with the chance to increase their lead over the Red Devils.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side made a disappointing start against Bournemouth after Georginio Wijnaldum’s error allowed Benik Afobe to break the deadlock in the first half.
Philippe Coutinho levelled before half-time and Divock Origi edged Liverpool into a 2-1 lead in the second half but Bournemouth scored a late equaliser through Joshua King.
Speaking to BT Sport about Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth and where it leaves Klopp’s side in the top-four race, Gerrard said:
“It is [tight top-four race] but I’ve got confidence. Trust me.”
