Steven Gerrard has admitted that he was disappointed Liverpool didn’t sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli.
The newly-capped England midfielder moved to the north London side in a £5m deal from League One side MK Dons in the summer transfer window.
Alli has quickly emerged as one of the most-exciting English talents in the Premier League after winning a spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team.
Champions League winner Gerrard decided to call time on his distinguished 17-year Anfield career at the end of the 2014/15 season.
And the former Liverpool captain was surprised the five-time European champions didn’t target Alli as a potential replacement for 35-year-old.
“I was surprised, actually disappointed, Liverpool didn’t sign him,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“I thought he was certainly a player that Liverpool might have tried to go for.
“Especially with me coming to the end, he was a player that I could see playing for Liverpool for 10 or 15 years. He has that ability.”
Alli has continued to impressed in a Tottenham shirt after an eye-catching start to the season.
The 19-year-old has scored two goals and has made one assist in 11 Premier League games in his first campaign in the English top-flight.
Alli could line up for Tottenham against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
