Theo Walcott says Arsenal have “underachieved” in recent seasons – but is backing Arsene Wenger’s side to build on their FA Cup success this term.
Arsene Wenger put pen to paper on a new three-year contract on Friday to extend his stay at Emirates Stadium to 2017 after the Gunners finished fourth in the Premier League and beat Hull City in the FA Cup final.
Walcott, who has been sidelined since January with a knee injury, expressed his delight at seeing the 64-year-old commit his future to the north London club.

But the England international is keen to see the Gunners push on next season and challenge for the Premier League.
“I’m very pleased, Arsene was one of the main instigators of me joining Arsenal,” Walcott told ITV.
“He’s tasted success and just wants more and more of it. He’s always said this is the best squad he’s worked with but I think we have underachieved.
“So we need to push on from a great season last year and make it even better.”
Asked if Arsenal can challenge for the title next season, Walcott replied: “Yes, but it’s crucial for myself, Aaron [Ramsey] and Jack [Wilshere] to stay fit next year. You take starting players out of any team and they will always struggle.
“Hopefully, for myself, I’ll come back faster and fitter than ever and I’m sure we’ll be right up there next year.”
