Tim Sherwood is hoping Manchester City can do Tottenham Hotspur a favour in their bid to finish in fourth place.

The Citizens take on the Gunners at The Emirates on Saturday after Arsene Wenger’s side were held to a 2-2 draw in north London mid-week following a 6-0 humiliation at Chelsea last weekend.

If Manuel Pellegrini’s men beat Arsenal and Spurs can pick up a big three points at Liverpool on Sunday, Tottenham would be a mere four points behind the stuttering Gunners.

So unsurprisingly, Sherwood had no issues declaring that he would be supporting the Eastlands outfit on Saturday evening.

“Absolutely [I’ll be supporting City]. There is no way we are catching City but there is a chance we can catch City,” Sherwood said.

The Tottenham manager expressed his lingering frustration with their 1-0 loss to Arsenal at White Hart Lane earlier this month, with the Gunners digging deep to hold onto three points.

“Once you know your result you do have a look at the other results to see if anyone has done you a favour and tripped someone else up along the way,” Sherwood continued.

“We deserved to win against Arsenal and we would be a lot closer than we are. They have tough game this weekend and we are praying the tables can be reversed.”

Sherwood also backed the Arsenal manager, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, to use his experience to navigate his way through a tough period.

Asked if he thought Wenger was suffering a breakdown at Arsenal, Sherwood replied: “Listen Arsene has got his 1,000th and odd games, he knows what he is doing.

“He has been one of the top managers in the Premier League and that’s why he is still in the job.”
