When it comes to ranking the best golfers of all time, there’s one name that instantly comes to mind – that being Tiger Woods.
No one has captured the sport quite like Tiger and his iconic red Nike shirt.
With a simply staggering 82 PGA Tour wins to his name, there haven’t been many better than Tiger over the years.
Despite his GOAT status, however, there are some things fans may not know about the golfing great, and The Sport Review lists them below.

Tiger Woods age and birthplace
Woods is currently 49 years old at the time of writing. His date of birth is December 30, 1975.
He is American, having been born and raised in the state of California.
Tiger Woods height
Tiger Woods stands at approximately 6ft 1in (1.85 m). His strong frame allowed him to become one of golf’s longest and most powerful drivers.
What is Tiger Woods’ real name?
He is known to the world as Tiger Woods, but his actual name, given to him at birth, was Eldrick Tont Woods.
The reasoning behind the name, Eldrick Tont, was that it began with the same letter as his father’s name, Earl, and Tont is a traditional Thai name, with his mother originating from Thailand.
In terms of where ‘Tiger’ came from, the name actually came from someone his father knew. Earl spent a lot of his working life in the US Army, becoming close friends with Colonel Vuong Dang Phong, whose nickname was ‘Tiger’.
When talking about the decision to use that name for his son, Earl told Golf Digest in November 2001:
“I knew instinctively that my son was going to have fame.
“Some day my old friend would see him on television, read about him in a newspaper or magazine, and say, ‘That must be Woody’s kid’, and we’d find each other again.”
Tiger Woods parents
Tiger’s father, Earl, is of African American descent, meanwhile, his mother, Kultida, is originally from Thailand.
Both parents would play a huge role in Tiger’s success on the course, with his father introducing him to the game of golf at just two years old.

Earl himself was an avid golfer and would help guide his son through the early stages of his career.
After watching his son dominate the world of golf, Earl would sadly die in 2006. Tiger’s mother would also pass away 19 years later, in February 2025.
When speaking of his mother’s passing, Woods claimed: “Without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”
Tiger Woods son
Tiger has two children with his ex-wife, one daughter, Sam Alexis Woods and one son, Charlie Woods.
Charlie, who is an amateur golfer, is seemingly trying to follow in his father’s footsteps in the world of golf.
Still only 16 years old, Charlie has featured mainly on the junior scene so far, enjoying success on the US circuit.
The father-son pairing have actually played alongside each other several times, featuring at the PNC Championships four times to date.
Tiger Woods wife
Tiger is currently unmarried at the time of writing, but did have a lengthy relationship with his ex-wife Elin Nordegren.
The pair first met back in 2001, while Nordegren was modelling in the US, but they wouldn’t get together until 2003.
Tiger married Nordegren in October 2004 and would eventually have their first child together in 2007, giving birth to their daughter Sam Alexis.

Charlie would be born two years later, but their son’s birth would soon be clouded over by controversy, after Tiger admitted to infidelity in December of that year.
After the news broke, Tiger announced he would be taking an “indefinite break” from golf to work on his marriage. That, however, would prove unsuccessful as the pair filed for divorce in August 2010.
Tiger has since gone on to have a number of high-profile relationships and is currently dating Vanessa Trump, Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife.
