The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, New York, is one of the most highly anticipated events in golf’s history.

Team USA look to snatch the crown back from Europe, who dominated the Americans two years ago in Rome. Europe seek to walk into the Big Apple and win the first away Ryder Cup in over a decade.

The stage is set perfectly, and it’s an incredible venue. Bethpage Black is one of the most challenging courses in the world. It comes with a warning sign on the first tee that reads, “WARNING, the Black Course is an extremely difficult course which we recommend only for highly skilled golfers.”

In addition to the course, the New York fans are expected to be deafeningly loud in support of Team USA. For Justin Rose and the Europeans, the build-up to the event began a decade ago.

Justin Rose says New York Ryder Cup will be a ‘beast’

Rose has been a staple of Team Europe’s Ryder Cup team for 17 years. He’s played in six of the events since 2008, and is one of two players on the team to have won in America back in 2012.

The Englishman is such a pivotal piece for Europe that captain Luke Donald spoke to Rose about what he needs to do to be picked for his team months in advance.

In the end, that was unnecessary, as he automatically qualified at the age of 45. Rose’s win at the St. Jude Championship secured his spot.

He’s a Ryder Cup veteran, but even someone with the experience of Rose is yet to experience anything like this New York crowd. Speaking to Golf Life, he explained what makes this event so special that he’s been discussing it for 10 years.

He said, “Head-to-head golf is exciting, isn’t it? We take golf into the football realms and other sports, where the crowd is partisan and they feel like they’ve got an influence on it.

“Then you have a home match and an away match, and they feel completely different. Each one has its own character, and New York’s going to be a beast, isn’t it? We’ve been talking about it for probably ten years now.

“We’re going to have to be resilient. The crowd are going to be a big part of it, but I also think we’re going to have a lot of support.

“The travelling fans always make an effort. You can hear it in football. They make an effort, and it’s normally the passionate ones that turn up at the course, so we need to hear them.”

Justin Rose’s Ryder Cup record

Rose’s experience is vital for the Ryder Cup, but it’s not the only thing he brings to the team. He has an incredible record at the tournament, going 14-9-3 overall over his six events.

A good start is crucial for Europe to quiet the American Ryder Cup fans and put doubt in the minds of their opponents. Rose has been exceptional in Friday foursomes, winning seven of his 10 appearances.

He’s had some memorable Ryder Cup moments in the last 17 years. During the 2012 “Miracle at Medinah”, Rose beat Phil Mickelson with a clutch 35-foot putt on the 17th green, during what was the biggest Sunday comeback in Ryder Cup history.

In Rome, Rose took a huge singles win over Patrick Cantlay, whose controversy with Rory McIlroy the day before lit a fire under the European team.

Rose still has the ability to dig deep and play his best golf in the biggest moments. He took McIlroy to the playoff at the Masters this year to prove that he can lock horns with the best in the game.

He’s a leader on the team, and Donald can rest easy knowing Rose won’t buckle to the raucous New York crowd.
