No one can match the greatness of Tiger Woods. There is, however, one player who’s certainly on his way to potentially doing so – namely, Scottie Scheffler.
2024 was a record-breaking year for Scottie Scheffler, picking up his second Masters crown.
Alongside his Augusta triumph was a staggering seven PGA Tour victories, a tally which was only two behind Woods’ all-time record of nine in 2000.
The stats, though, aren’t the only similarity between them, with Woods even admitting he sees some of himself in Scheffler.

Tiger Woods thinks he has a similarity with Scottie Scheffler
Countless golfers have tried and failed to recreate Tiger’s on-course antics over the years. Scheffler, though, seems to be one of the very few who has managed to do so.
According to Woods himself, the current PGA Championship holder is ‘very similar’ in terms of how he plays the greens.
“We see shots into the greens very similar. How to miss golf balls into the correct spots, it’s not always pretty but it’s not about the here and now, it’s about playing the long game,” Woods admitted in a 2024 interview with the PGA Tour website
“It’s over 72 holes, it’s not a sprint, this is over a marathon. I think that’s the similarity between how we play.”
Scheffler is recreating Tiger-like form
Scheffler still has a long way to go if he wants to match Tiger’s staggering total of 15 major championships. His recent form, though, suggests he’s getting close to recreating some of the form seen by a prime Woods.
The Texas native’s run in 2024 was something the golfing world hadn’t seen in a long time, putting up numbers only seen by the likes of Woods.
| Tiger Woods | Scottie Scheffler | |
| Peak Performance | Sep 2000 | June 2024 |
| Wins | 9 | 5 |
| Top 10s | 17 | 12 |
| SG per round | +3.98 | +3.11 |
| Scoring Average | 67.8 | 68.6 |
| Fairway % | 71.2 | 72.1 |
| GIR % | 75.2 | 73.5 |
| Putting Average | 1.7 | 1.7 |
| Sand Saves | 57.3 | 51.6 |
| Scambling | 67.1 | 69.2 |
Whether it be his putting average or fairway percentage, almost all of the stats indicate that Scheffler is the closest thing we have seen to a prime Tiger.
Scheffler faces a tough task maintaining that form, but his impressive start to 2025 suggests he may be able to.
