Bob MacIntyre’s chances of booking his place on Team Europe for this year’s Ryder Cup have dramatically increased after this weekend’s performance at the Open Championship.

The Scot finished the Open Championship in the top ten of the leaderboard with a score of ten under.

In a weekend where winner Scottie Scheffler dominated the headlines, MacIntyre himself will be pleased with his performance.

After claiming tenth place in Northern Ireland, the 28-year-old took home close to $452,000, and his earnings this year have now reached around $5.7 million on the PGA Tour.

That may have a huge impact on the Ryder Cup, as attention turns towards qualification in the near future.

Bob MacIntyre shines in Northern Ireland at the Open Championship ahead of Ryder Cup contention

MacIntyre’s performance at the Open Championship means he has strengthened his chances of securing a spot at this year’s Ryder Cup

The Scotsman finished above the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Rose at this year’s Open Championship on his way to finishing in the top ten.

He has now recorded five top 10 finishes this year, which has proved to be a real boost for the 28-year-old’s Ryder Cup chances

He now sits in second place behind Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who has already secured his spot at this year’s competition.

MacIntyre, 28, jumped above Tommy Fleetwood in the standings on the back of his strong performance at Portrush.

With the 2025 Ryder Cup now just a few months away, plenty of players will be battling to earn a place on the team.

Rasmus Hojgaard, Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick are amongst those chasing the Ryder Cup

MacIntyre will want to finish the year strongly if he is to represent Team Europe at this year’s competition in the USA.

The 28-year-old went undefeated on his Ryder Cup debut in 2023, which saw Europe defeat the USA 19-9.

After a successful year already, MacIntyre continues to edge closer to securing the second automatic spot on Team Europe, which would leave just four automatic places for the remaining golfers in contention

Masters runner-up Rose, Norwegian Rasmus Hojgaard, and Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick, who finished in fourth place at this year’s Open Championship, all still have a fighting chance of securing their automatic place.

Those who don’t get picked still have a chance of being decided by the team captain, who this year is Luke Donald, after leading them to victory in 2023.

There may be no prize money for the renowned contest, but it carries immense prestige, and elite golfers are always keen to participate.
