But how good is Assault really, and how does it compare to the very best pre workouts on the market right now?
We’re going to take a detailed look at this product in our review by breaking down the ingredients and rating it in comparison to the competition.
So, let’s get this review under way and start taking a close look at Assault to see whether it’s the best pre workout to get you firing in the gym.
You’ve probably already worked out that Assault fits into the broader category of supplements known as pre workouts.
The idea of a pre workout is that you take it before your gym session or sports game, and it fuels you with the energy and stamina you need to perform at your best.
As we mentioned above, MusclePharm claim that Assualt helps in a variety of ways, including strength and endurance.
Indeed, the official website claims that Assault sets a “new standard” in the pre workout category.
So, does this supplement live up to the marketing hype? Let’s take a close look at its ingredients to find out.
Taking a quick look at the label reveals some good things and some not so good things about Assault.
For starters, it’s good that MusclePharm do not use a proprietary blend for this product, meaning we can see each of the ingredients and their individual doses.
Let’s start by concentrating on the ingredients that Assault does indeed contain.
• Caffeine Anhydrous – An old classic, but it’s still one of the best pre workout ingredients in our opinion. Caffeine can help to boost energy levels, stamina and focus, and Assault contains 250mg per scoop.
• Creatine Monohydrate – Another one of our favorite pre workout ingredients. You’ll already know about creatine for its post workout benefits, but it’s also a valuable pre workout ingredient because it can help to increase hydration and reduce fatigue.
• L-Carnitine – Another top choice from the guys at MusclePharm. L-Carnitine has a wide range of benefits, including a believed ability to reduce overall muscle damage. Our one concern here that it’s slightly under-dosed at 250mg per serving. We’d rather have seen it at around 500mg.
• Beta Alanine – We don’t rate Beta Alanine as one of the most important pre workout ingredients but a lot of products do still contain it. It’s believed that it can help buffer the acid in your muscles, but also has been reported to have some unwanted side effects. We’re not too sure about it.
• Betaine Anhydrous – Another interesting choice. It’s not our favorite pre workout ingredient. It’s derived from the amino acid choline and is believed to help with things like energy and power. However, we would prefer to see pure beetroot extract in Assault instead.

Although Assault does include some good ingredients, there are also quite a few of our favorite pre workout picks missing.
Firstly, it was a shame not to find any L-Theanine on the label. It’s an amino acid extracted from tea leaves, and when combined with caffeine can help to refuce some of the unwanted side effects such as the jitters. Think: a calm and focused energy surge.
We also felt that some of the doses were slightly off. We’d have liked to have seen slightly less caffeine than the 250mg per scoop, as this is a bit much in our opinion.
Also, we’d prefer to see more Acetyl L-Carnitine than the 250mg included per scoop. Our recommended dose of this ingredient is 500mg per serving.
Citrulline Dl-Malate is also another of our favorite ingredients not included in Assault.
Most modern pre workout supplements are pretty safe, because they generally tend to only contain natural and legal ingredients.
That being said, we always recommend that you take a close look at the label to make sure that you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients.
The other thing to look out for is stimulant content. Caffeine is a great pre workout ingredient, but too much of it can cause unwanted things like the jitters and energy crashes later in the day.
We generally recommend not to be taking more than 150mg of caffeine in your serving of your pre workout, as you’re likely to be getting more from other sources (such as coffee or other supplements).
Of course, if you’re considering taking Assault in the evening, the high caffeine content could affect your sleep.
Each tub of Assault contains 30 servings.
It’s currently available in five flavors: Fruit Punch, Green Apple, Strawberry Ice, Watermelon and Blue Raspberry.
The directions say that you should mix one scoop of Assault in a glass of cold water and drink it around 20-30 minutes before starting your training.
There’s a warning saying not to exceed one serving per day.
We always recommend experimenting with the timings, as the speed a pre workout takes to ‘kick in’ can very from person to person.
We found 80 reviews of Assault on bodybuilding.com at the time of writing this review. It had an average rating of 6.9 out of 10.
One person said they bought the Green Apple flavor but claimed they were “expecting more” as they rated it six out of 10.
Someone else said that they loved it because of the focus and pump it gave them.
However, one other verified buyer claimed that the product is not as good as it used to be because MusclePharm recently reformulated it.
Not in our humble opinion. Although Assault definitely does have some good things going for it, including some decent ingredients, we feel it falls a bit short because of the lack of some key ingredients and the doses of some of the others.

Overall, we think Assault is a decent product, but we definitely feel that it lets itself down in a few key areas. We don’t rate it as the best pre workout on sale right now, but it’s not too bad.
