Cellucor C4 is a leading pre workout supplement designed to give you an extra boost during your training sessions at the gym.

The manufacturers claim that it’s been designed to give you explosive energy and heightened focus to make sure you get the very best out of your sessions in the gym.

In this review article, we’re going to take a close look at C4 by breaking down the ingredients and checking out some real customer reviews to see how it fares compared to the competition.

We’ll then wrap things up by deciding whether this is a product we would consider as one of the best pre workouts or not.

So, let’s delve right in and start taking a close look at the popular supplement in our Cellucor C4 review.

What does Cellucor C4 do?

As you’ve probably already gathered, Cellucor C4 fits into a broader range of supplements known as ‘pre workouts’.

These are products which have been specifically designed to be consumed before a gym session or playing sport, to keep your energy levels up and you performing at your peak.

After all, there’s no point in hitting the gym if you’re just going through the motions and not feeling at your best. Making every trip to the gym count is crucial to your success.

Let’s start by taking a detailed look at the ingredients in C4.

What you need to know about the ingredients

There are some pretty good ingredients in C4 but there are also some things we’re not so sure about on the label.

Let’s start by focusing on the main ingredients of this pre workout supplement.

• Caffeine Anhydrous – This is one of the most popular pre workout ingredients. Caffeine has been proven to boost energy levels and focus and so it’s a solid ingredient to make sure you hit peak form in the gym C4 contains 150mg per serving, which is our recommended dose, as we personally don’t favor products which over-do it on the stimulants.

• Creatine Nitrate – Creatine is another good pre workout ingredient. In the bodybuilding industry, creatine is known for its recovery benefits, but it can also be useful pre workout as it can boost hydration among other things.

• Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate – Quite the mouthful to say, AAKG is a popular bodybuilding supplement. Studies have shown that this nonessential amino acid can help you excercise for longer. We can see why this has been included, but we don’t rate it as a vital pre workout ingredient.

• Beta-Alanine – This naturally occurring beta amino acid has presumably been included in C4 because of its ability to raise muscle carnosine levels and boost stamina during high intensity sessions. Again, this is a popular supplement on its own, but we don’t rate it as a vital pre workout ingredient.

• Vitamins B6 and B12 – Although we’re not going to criticize a manufacturer for including vitamins in a supplement, we’re not too sure why these two have been included in C4. Yes, they carry a range of benefits, but they’re unlikely to help you get any more out of your gym session.

C4 also contains a number of other ingredients such as Vitamin C, Folic Acid, as well as some other interest substances in its “explosive energy blend”.

What’s missing?

Although C4 does contain some good stuff, we found that this supplement is missing some of our favorite pre workout ingredients.

Firstly, it was a shame not to see L-Theanine included. When combined with caffeine, this amino acid can help to keep you feeling calm and energised while bringing on a sense of focus.

We were also disappointed not to find any L-Citrulline Dl-Malate on the label. Extracted from watermelon, this has become an increasingly popular pre workout ingredient in recent times because it can help to increase stamina and boost muscle pumps.

Other things we were disappointed not to find on the label were thing like Coconut Water Powder, Acetyl L-Carnitine and Rhodiola Rosea Powder.

Are there any side effects?

These kinds of supplements made by big brands are usually pretty safe because they tend to only include ingredients from natural sources.

The one thing to bear in mind is the stimulant content. Each serving of C4 contains 150mg of caffeine to get you energised, which is a good amount.

However, if you’re also drinking coffee and combining this supplement with others which contain stimulants, it might be too much. It’s best to be sensible and make sure you’re not over-doing it on the caffeine.

Also, if you tend to workout in the late afternoon or evening, this supplement is not for you, as the caffeine will likely disrupt your natural sleep pattern.

How to take Cellucor C4

Cellucor C4 is currently available in two tub sizes, one of 60 servings and one of 30 servings.

The label says that you should take one scoop (6g) of C4 and mix it into a glass of water around 20-30 minutes before training.

This is how most pre workouts are taken, although the time it takes to kick in is certain to vary from person to person.

We recommend experimenting with your pre workout to see how long it really takes to kick in for you, and then time your dose before the gym accordingly.

C4 comes in a range of flavors, from Juice Candy Burst to Green Apple, as well as Watermelon.

What are customers saying?

We found lots of good reviews of C4 online. At the time of writing this review, there were 300 reviews on the official website, 247 of which were five stars and only two of which were one star.

It’s hard to say if they censor the reviews on their own website though.

One customer said that it had become their favorite pre workout supplement.

Another said that they had been using it for years and that C4 has the best flavors.

Someone else, though, complained that it was too sweet and sugary for them and that it did nothing for them.

Is this the best pre workout?

Although C4 does definitely have some good things going for it, we don’t consider it as the best pre workout on sale at the moment.

Anything else to consider?

As we always say when discussing health and fitness supplements, it’s important to remember that the product alone is not going to do anything for you without hard work.

Although a good pre workout should get you feeling energised and focused in the gym, it won’t do the heavy lifting for you.

As always, make sure you’ve got a solid training and nutrition progam in place before trying a pre workout supplement.
