There are so many supplements on sale right now that it can sometimes be hard to determine which one is the best.
But MuscleTech’s Hydroxycut range is one of the most popular on the market at the moment, so we were intrigued to learn about their latest product.
This product promises to help you lose weight, but to also deliver “extreme energy” and a “powerful sensory experience”.
In this review, we’re going to take a close look at this supplement to find out if it lives up to the marketing hype or not.
As you’ve probably already gathered, Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx is a supplement designed to help support you on your journey.
It combines a number of naturally-occurring ingredients to help you as you look to achieve your goals.
What’s interesting about this product is that it’s also been designed to deliver what the manufacturers call a “sensory experience”. More on that later.
Simply put, this product, if used correctly, is designed to help support you as you look to take responsibility for your results.
Let’s kick this part off by taking a close look at the actual ingredients label of this product.
The first thing we noticed is that the manufacturers have used a proprietary blend called the “Black Onyx Matrix”.
We’re generally not fans of proprietary blends because it means that the manufacturer doesn’t have to state the doses of the individual ingredients, and instead they list a total dose.
This is not good, because it makes judging the effectiveness of the product more difficult.
Luckily though, Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx’s proprietary blend only contains two ingredients, and the rest of the ingredients in the product are listed with their doses.
Here’s a summary of the best ingredients in this product:
• Caffeine Anhydrous – Great to see this on the label. One of the best ingredients around. We’re always pleased to find this ingredient in supplements like this.
• Green Coffee Bean Extract – Another good ingredient. Unroasted coffee beans are very high in Chlorogenic Acid. It’s another good inclusion in the Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx formula.
• L-Theanine – It was interesting to find this ingredient on the label because it’s usually something we are more used to seeing in the best pre workout supplements. It’s an amino acid extract from tea leaves and is often paired with Caffeine in the same supplement.
• Coleus forskohlii – We’re not too sure about this ingredient. We haven’t seen it included in many similar supplements very often before. That said, there are some studies which suggest it could help with certain things. It’s just that we would have preferred to have seen a more proven ingredient used here.
There are also quite a few other ingredients in Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx. Two notable ones are Satsuma orange supplying beta-cryptoxanthin and Salvia miltiorrhiza, which the official website says has been added to benefit the “sensory” experience.
A word about the ‘sensory experience’. This seems like a pretty vague term to us, and there’s nothing in the packaging to suggest that the ingredients will do anything particularly special.
Although Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx does tick a few of our favorite boxes when it comes to the ingredients, there were also quite a few things missing in our opinion.
Firstly, we were disappointed not to find any Cayenne Pepper in this supplement. It’s one of our favorite ingredients and we always look for it on the label of products in this category.
It was also a shame that there is no Green Tea Extract in Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx. It’s another of our favorite ingredients and the leading supplements usually contain some Green Tea Extract and Cayenne Pepper.

We’d usually say that most modern health and fitness supplements are pretty safe, because they usually feature commonly-used ingredients.
That being said, we always recommend that you take a close look at the ingredients label yourself before trying a new product for the first time, even just to check that you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients.
One of the main things to look out for in supplements like this is the stimulant content.
As Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx uses 145mg of Caffeine per serving, we’d definitely not recommend taking this product too close to bedtime.
As mentioned above, we always recommend doing your own research into ingredients before trying a new product.
We do also recommend speaking to your doctor before thinking about taking any new supplement for the first time.
Each bottle of Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx contains 80 capsules.
That means that if you take the recommended final dose of three capsules per day, one bottle will last you for around 26 days.
When using the product for the first time, you’re supposed to assess your tolerance with one capsules daily to start with, before gradually raising your dose.
The final recommended dose is two capsules in the morning and one later in the day.
This is a decent dose schedule. We always prefer supplements that require you to take them more often, as your body will need to be consistently supplied with the ingredients.
We found quite a few reviews of this product on sites such as Amazon. It was rated at around 3.5 out of 5 stars at the time of writing this article.
One customer said that they loved the product and had been using it before photoshoots for more than three years. That’s certainly a glowing recommendation.
Someone else said that it was their favorite product from the Hydroxycut range.
However, there were also some negative reviews. One person said that it made them feel “sick to their stomach”.
Someone else simply said that the product did not live up to expectations and didn’t help them very much.
Not for us. Although Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx does contain some good ingredients and comes from a reputable brand, there are too many of our favorite ingredients missing for us to truly consider it a top-quality supplement.

If you’re a regular reader of our articles, you’ll have heard this before, but we’re going to say it again.
There is no ‘magic pill’ when it comes to your body.
The fact is, you should always make sure that you’re eating right and training hard before thinking about adding a supplement to your regimen.
However, if you have got your nutrition and training regime on point, then adding a quality supplement can help to support you on your journey.
That wraps up our review of Hydroxycut SX-7 Black Onyx by MuscleTech.
We think that this is a decent supplement but there are too many ingredients missing for us to consider it as one of the best.
There are better options on the market right now if you’re looking for a supplement to help support your goals.
