MyProtein have just released a new update in the formula and the new product is now called Mypre 2.0. It’s been designed to give you a boost of energy and focus to make sure that you’re feeling at your best at the gym or playing sports.
Among other things, it contains caffeine and creatine to help get you firing on all cylinders during your training sessions.
In this review article, we’re going to take a close look at Mypre to assess whether it’s a pre workout supplement you should consider taking.

As you’re no doubt aware, Mypre fits into the broader range of supplements known as ‘pre workouts’. These are products which have been specifically formulated to make sure that you’re getting the very best out of your trips to the gym.
It’s important to note that pre workouts don’t usually contain ingredients to help with fat loss and muscle growth, rather they help to get you ‘in the zone’ while you exercise.
Myprotein are a popular UK sports supplements company, and they claim that the newly-update Mypre formula is their “most explosive” yet.
So, how does Mypre fare when compared to the competition, and if we ignore all of the marketing hype? Let’s start by taking a close look at the ingredients.
Mypre’s ingredients list is a pretty long one (scroll down to see it in full).
Generally, we prefer supplements which don’t try to overdo it in terms of the number of ingredients, but it doesn’t matter too much if the dosages are correct.
Here are the top ingredients in Mypre:
• Caffeine – It’s a classic but a good one. Caffeine has been shown to boost energy levels and help with focus, so it’s definitely a good addition to your pre workout supplement. The thing to bear in mind is the total amount per serving. Mypre contains 175mg, which is just slightly above our recommended amount of 150mg.
• Guarana extract – This is another stimulant which can help give you an energy boost. Given that this supplement already contains caffeine, we’re not sure it needed another 75mg of Guarana.
• Creatine Monohydrate – Famous for its post-workout benefits, we actually rate creatine as one of the best pre workout ingredients. That’s because it can help with hydration and endurance during your gym sessions, so we were pleased to see it on the label of Mypre.
• L-Citrulline Malate – Another one of our favorite ingredients for a pre workout supplement. It’s an amino acid extracted from watermelon and Mypre contains a generous 3g per serving. L-Citrulline Malate can help you get those amazing muscle pumps during your session.
• BioPerine (black pepper extract) – Although it’s not going to directly affect your workout, we like to see black pepper extract on the label of any supplement because it can help with the absorption of the other ingredients. In short, it can help to make sure that your body is getting the best out of all of the nutrients.
• L-Carnitine – This is another solid ingredient. L-Carnitine is an amino acid that has been shown to help combat fatigue and reduce total muscle damage. A good addition to any pre workout supplement.

Although Mypre does tick a lot of boxes when it comes to the ingredients list, there are a few things missing from it that prevent us from rating it as one of the very best pre workout supplements.
Firstly, we were disappointed not to find any L-Theanine on the label. If you know your supplements, you’ll known that L-Theanine combines brilliantly with caffeine. It helps you feel the full effects of the caffeine, without any of the nasty side effects such as the jitters or energy crashes.
Beetroot extract is another of our favorite pre workout ingredients that wasn’t included in Mypre. It can help improve muscle endurance and create amazing muscle pumps.
Coconut water powder was another one of our top rated pre workout ingredients that didn’t make the list in Mypre.
The one thing to be wary of when it comes to pre workouts is usually the stimulant content. You’ll want a product that does give you the energy boost you need, but without overdoing it.
As we mentioned above, we generally recommend that your pre workout shouldn’t contain more than 150mg of caffeine per serving.
It would be safe to have more, of course, but with most people also consuming caffeine from other sources, it can all add up pretty quickly.
It should also be noted that Mypre also contains Guarana, which is another source of caffeine, and this should be taken into account as well.
We always recommend that you take a close look at the ingredients list to make sure that you’re not allergic to any of the substances.
Of course, if you tend to work out in the evenings or late afternoon, we suggest you look for a non-stimulant pre workout, so it won’t affect your sleep.
Each tub of Mypre is 420g, which equates to 30 servings.
The label says that you should mix one scoop with a glass of water and drink it around 30 minutes before starting your training.
At the time of writing this review, Mypre was available in three flavors: Blue Raspberry, Fruit Punch and Orange Mango Passionfruit.
There’s a warning about the 175mg caffeine content per serving and they suggest that you start with one scoop only to assess your tolerance.
At the time of putting together this review, there was only one official review of Mypre on the Myprotein website, presumably because they’ve just updated their formula.
The review was a positive one, with the customer saying that he much prefers the updated formula compared to the old version.
He said that he took two scoops and that it helped him through a gruelling chest workout. He said that he used the Blue Raspberry flavor.
Mypre is definitely a good product, but we don’t rate it as the very best pre workout on sale at the moment.
