Pre-Workout Blend Myprotein – The Basics

As you will have no doubt guessed by its name, the Pre-Workout Blend is a pre workout supplement made by Myprotein that’s been formulated to help you get the most out of your training.

It’s sold online from the official Myprotein website, and claims to have been specifically designed to help support your training goals.

You probably already know what pre workout supplements are all about. They usually come in a powder form that’s mixed into a drink and consumed before your exercise session.

Pre workouts usually contain a range of commonly-used ingredients, including vitamins and minerals, amino acids, stimulants and plant extracts.

The Pre-Workout Blend is marketed as a “powerful” supplement that delivers a Caffeine hit and that has been designed to support your health and fitness goals.

It contains a range of commonly-used ingredients that have been specifically selected to help you to take your training to “the next level”.

It’s available in 250g or 500g pouches, and it is priced as one of the more affordable pre workout supplements on the market.

The Pre-Workout Blend is available in four different flavours:

• Fruit Punch (the one we tried)
• Cola
• Blue Raspberry
• Orange Mango Passionfruit

So, now that we’ve covered some of the basic things to know about the Pre-Workout Blend, it’s time to take a closer look at the all-important ingredients formula.

The Ingredients

Let’s begin this part of our Pre-Workout Blend review by taking a close look at the actual ingredients label of this supplement.

Note that the formula shown below was shown on the official Myprotein website and was correct at the time of writing. However, manufacturers may change their formulas from time to time, so it’s important to check the label of any supplement you’re thinking of taking.

Editor's note: Any health claims about the ingredients mentioned in this article are listed as authorised on the EU Register at the time of publishing. Additionally, you should carefully check the ingredients information shown on the official website of any product you're considering purchasing, as formulas may change from time to time and therefore may differ from what's shown on this page.

Let’s now focus a bit more closely on some of the top ingredients in the Pre-Workout Blend formula.

• Vitamin C – You probably already know about Vitamin C. It’s an important vitamin that we need to get from our diet, and it helps with things like the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

• Vitamins B6 and B12 – These are two important B Vitamins that we need to get from our diets. Vitamins B6 and B12 help with normal energy release and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

• Caffeine – This is one of the most commonly-used pre workout ingredients. Caffeine is one of the most popular stimulants on the planet, and each serving of the Pre-Workout Blend contains 150mg. To put this dose into context, you’d expect to find around 100mg of Caffeine in a regular cup of coffee.

• Guarana Seed Extract – This is another stimulant ingredient in the Pre-Workout formula that’s also a source of Caffeine. Each serving of the Pre-Workout Blend contains 100mg of Guarana Seed Extract.

• L-Citrulline Malate – An amino acid found in watermelons, this is a very popular pre workout ingredient. The Pre-Workout Blend contains 3g of L-Citrulline Malate per serving.

• Beta Alanine – Another commonly-used pre-workout ingredient, each serving of the Pre-Workout Blend contains 1.6g of Beta Alanine.

• L-Tyrosine – This is another amino acid ingredient in the Pre-Workout Blend formula, and there is 1g of L-Tyrosine per serving.

• Taurine – A common ingredient in a lot of commercially-available energy drinks, Taurine is also a pretty regular inclusion in pre workout supplements.

Other ingredients in the Pre-Workout Blend formula include Niacin and Betanine. It’s worth noting that this supplement uses the sweeteners Sucralose and Acesulfame K to enhance its flavour.

How To Take It

Each pouch of the Pre-Workout Blend contains either 22 servings (250g) or 43 servings (500g).

The directions are pretty straightforward – they suggest that you mix up a scoop with water or juice before exercise to “kick-start” your workout.

There is a warning on the label saying not to exceed the stated recommended dose.

Due to the Caffeine content in this supplement, it’s probably best not to take this supplement within about six hours of when you plan to go to sleep.

The Taste

We followed the directions and mixed a scoop into a glass of water. It dissolved very quickly and mixed very well.

We tried out the ‘Fruit Punch’ flavour. The powder soon turned the water a light pink colour.

The taste was pleasant and fruity, but it did have something of a ‘synthetic’ flavour to it as well. This is often the case with pre workout supplements.

Price and Where To Buy

At the time of writing, one 250g pouch of the Pre-Workout Blend cost around £16 from the official Myprotein website, and the 500g pouch will set you back around £25.

You can buy the Pre-Workout Blend directly from the manufacturer on the official Myprotein site.

Side Effects

It’s always best to speak to your doctor before taking a new supplement or making any major lifestyle changes.

There are a number of warnings that are written on the label of this supplement.

The label says that you must not exceed the stated recommended daily dose.

It also says that it must not be consumed by pregnant, lactating women or children, or for prolonged periods without medical supervision.

There is another warning saying that E110, E129 may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.

As we mentioned above, it’s probably best not to take this supplement too close to bedtime because of the Caffeine content.

Anything Else To Consider?

Just remember that supplements are not ‘magic powders’ that will work without any effort on your part.

Despite the claims surrounding these kinds of products, you’ll still need to put in the hard work yourself to see results.

Food supplements are not intended to replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy overall lifestyle.

Ensuring that you are sticking to a good diet, following a sensible workout plan and are getting enough quality sleep are three of the most important things you can do for your overall health.

Conclusion – Our Final Thoughts

All in all, this is a decent budget pre workout supplement that tastes pretty good. The main downsides are that it uses Sucralose and doesn’t contain any Creatine in its ingredients formula.

There is also nothing on the label to suggest that this supplement is suitable for Vegans or Vegetarians.
