TrueDark Twilights Classic Review

The TrueDark Twilights Classic is the ‘ultimate’ blue light blocking glasses for use before going to sleep.

We’ve tried a lot of the leading blue light blocking glasses for sleep in recent weeks and we were keen to take a close look at TrueDark’s flagship product for use before bed.

We’ve already reviewed the TrueDark Daylights Elite here at The Sport Review, but we wanted to give the Twilights Classic a go to see what the major differences are.

The purpose of this TrueDark Twilights Classic review is for us to take a detailed look at these blue light blocking glasses to see where they stand.

We’re going to be paying particularly close attention to the lenses, the frames and the effect we felt after having used them for a few nights in a row.

We’ll then wrap things up and see if they make it onto our list of the best blue light blocking glasses on the market right now.

We were really excited about trying out the Twilights Classic, so let’s get the review started by taking a close look at the basic things you need to know about this particular pair of blue blocker glasses.

TrueDark Twilights Classic – The Basics

So, as we have already touched upon above, the TrueDark Twilights Classic are blue light blocking glasses that are specifically designed to be worn before bed to help with sleep.

They feature dark red lenses and a wrap-around frame, designed to help block out the blue light emitted from digital screens and devices.

In case you didn’t already know, blue light blocking glasses have already been around for a few years, but only recently have models emerged with darker orange and red lenses designed to be worn in the hours before bed.

The idea behind them is to block out or reduce the effect of stimulating blue and green light, which can interfere with your body’s natural rhythm and body clock.

Put simply, blue light blocking glasses for sleep are designed to tell your body that it’s dark outside and that it’s time to start winding down.

The problem with our chronic exposure to artificial light at night in the modern world is that it can interfere with our body clocks and have a knock-on effect on our sleep and recovery.

Taking a look at the official TrueDark website, the TrueDark Twilights Classics are marketed as the ultimate “junk light” blocking glasses on the market.

They feature patent pending dark red lenses to block out 100 per cent of blue, green and violet wavelengths of light. This makes them the ultimate choice for people who are looking for a pair of blue blockers to help with their sleep.

The glasses also come with clear polycarbonate prescription inserts, to be filled by wearer’s optician, if you wear prescription glasses.

The product description says that the TrueDark Twilights Classic glasses are designed to block out the harshest frequencies of light emitted by fluorescent lights, LEDs, electronics, phones, tablets and computers.

So, now that we’ve covered some of the basic things you need to know about the TrueDark Twilights Classics, it’s time to start taking a closer look at the styles and frames in a little bit more detail.

The Styles and Frames

The first thing to note about the Twilights Classics is that they currently only come in one frame style.

It’s a modern-looking wrap-around frame with foam at the top and bottom of the glasses to help block out blue light from above and below, as well as through the lens itself.

The frames are made of polycarbonate plastic and they are so light that you won’t even feel them on your face!

The first thing we noticed when unboxing the product was the general ‘quality’ feel of everything. The glasses come packaged in a high quality box, along with a triangular folding case and lens cleaning cloth.

Yes, the TrueDarks are pricey at $89, but you’ll feel like it’s money well spent once you’ve received them and used them for a few nights in a row.

The one downside when it comes to the frames is that there is a lack of options and different styles. There is only one frame style to choose from.

Although the frames are highly effective at blocking blue light, some people may not want to wear these frames while out and about in public, although that will come down to personal preference.

Now it’s time to start taking a look at the special Twilights Classic lens and the effect we felt from using them for a few nights in a row.

The Lenses and the Effect

The first thing to bear in mind is that the Twilights Classic use a patent-pending technology that uses pure, durable solid colored lenses rather than a color tint painted over a clear lens (which is how most other blue blockers are made).

TrueDark Twilights Classic Lenses

It’s also important to realize that the TrueDark Twilights Classics block 100 per cent of blue, green and violet light. This makes them very special in the blue blocker market.

The first thing we noticed about the Twilights Classics is that the lenses are a much darker red color than those offered by Ra Optics and BON CHARGE.

The Twilights Classic lenses make everything look dark red and you can clearly tell that all blue light is blocked, just by glancing at your TV screen or mobile phone.

We put them on around two hours before bed and noticed that we started feeling sleepy around an hour after having put them on.

What’s great about them is that they also do not leak much light in from the top of the frames thanks to the foam padding. This has been a concern of ours from blue blockers we’ve used in the past, as much of the artificial lighting we’re exposed to these days does come from above.

One thing to bear in mind is that they do make everything a lot darker, so it’s important to make sure that you’ve got enough light to be able to see what you’re doing.

As with all blue blocker glasses, you should not wear them while driving or operating heavy machinery, as they can make it pretty difficult to see what’s going on. They are only really designed to be used in the comfort of your own home.

What Are Customers Saying?

We took a look on Amazon to see what real customers were saying about the TrueDark Twilights Classic.

At the time of writing, the glasses had an average rating of 3.6 out of 5 stars from a total of 51 reviews.

One five-star review came from someone who said that the Twilights Classics had helped them a lot after their employer installed bright LED lighting in their place of work.

TrueDark Twilights Classic Close-Up

The negative reviews mostly came from people who claimed that their pair of glasses had broken easily. This is not something we experienced.

Any Negatives?

The main downside of the Twilights Classics in our opinion is the fact that there are not more frame styles on offer.

It would be great for TrueDark to use the same dark red lenses on some of their other styles of glasses to give customers more of a choice when it comes to using them.

The premium price tag of $89 may also put some people off, although you can get 10% off your order by using the discount code HUMANWINDOW at checkout when you click through to the TrueDark website via this link.

Anything Else to Consider?

As mentioned above, you should not wear any blue light blocking glasses while driving or while operating any heavy machinery.

It’s also worth remembering that they should be used in conjunction with a healthy and balanced lifestyle overall.

You shouldn’t expect a pair of blue light blocking glasses to solve all of your health and sleep problems on their own.

That being said, we have found them to be able to make a massive difference for use when used in the correct way along with a healthy and sensible lifestyle.

TrueDark Twilights Classic Review Conclusion

That brings us to the end of our TrueDark Twilights Classic review.

Overall, we think that they are your best bet if you’re looking for a pair of blue light blocking glasses to help with sleep and don’t mind about the frame style.

They are so effective at blocking out blue, green and violet light that we found ourselves struggling to take them off even for a second after having worn them for half an hour at night.

The slight downsides to the TrueDark Twilights Classics is that there are not more styles on offer and that these glasses carry a premium price tag.

However, we are huge fans of the Twilights Classics and cannot imagine not using them for a couple of hours before bed for the rest of our lives!
