They both offer good quality blue light blocking glasses that are designed for use both for computers and after dark before sleep.

OUR VERDICT: This round is a draw. Both of these companies have positioned themselves in similar places in the market, and they both offer good quality products to consumers.

The Lenses

Now it’s time to start taking a closer look at the all important lenses to see how they differ and what options they offer in terms of sleep options.

For this part, we’re going to focus specifically on the TrueDark Twilight Elite and the Night Swannies, as these are the two most similar products they offer.

TrueDark Twilight Elite

TrueDark Twilight Elite

If you’re interested in learning more in detail about the TrueDark product, then be sure to check out our TrueDark Twilight Elite review.

The Twilight Elite is the main lens offered by TrueDark for use after sunset. The idea is that they block out harmful blue and green light to help to tell your body that it’s dark outside and that it’s time to prepare for bed.

The official TrueDark website says that their Twilight Elite lens effectively blocks out 98 per cent of blue, green and violet wavelengths of light. This does mean that they do let a little bit of blue light through. However, we only really noticed this when looking closely at a screen.

If you’re looking for a solution that blocks out all blue light, then the Twilight Classic may be a better option for you. BLUblox and Ra Optics are also good options.

What’s cool about the TrueDark lenses is that they use patent-pending technology. Unlike many other blue light blocking glasses out there, the lenses are actually a solid color, rather than simply clear lenses with a tint added.

TrueDark Twilight Elite with Case

We are big fans of the Twilight Elites here at The Sport Review. They have been a great addition to our bedtime routine. The only thing we noticed is that they do tend to led in a little bit more blue light than some of the other brands we’ve tried.

Night Swannies

Swanwick Sleep Glasses

Night Swannies are the main lens offering from Swanwick Sleep that, you’ve guessed it, are designed for use after dark.

They feature more of an orange tint to them, suggesting that they do let in a bit more blue light than the TrueDark versions, which are a much darker red color.

The Night Swannies have a dark orange tint to them, and the website says that they can also be used during the day if you are, for example, using a computer for a prolonged period.

It’s interesting that Swanwick Sleep do not explicitly reveal the exact amount of blue light that is filtered out by their glasses on the official website.

This is a little bit disappointing, as it’s always good for consumers to be able to compare the numbers so that they know what they’re getting.

OUR VERDICT: TrueDark takes this round, simply because we found their lenses to block out more blue light. The closer you get to bedtime, the more blue light you’ll want to filter out. That’s why we’ve picked TrueDark on top here.

The Frames

Now it’s time to take a close look at both brands to see the different styles they offer when it comes to frames.

We think that this is often an overlooked feature of blue light glasses. If you’re going to commit to wearing them before bed on a regular basis, then you’ll want to have some glasses that you actually feel comfortable wearing and that you won’t be afraid to wear out and about from time to time.

Let’s take a look at the different styles offered by both brands.

TrueDark Twilight Elite

At the time of writing, there is only one option when it comes to the frame styles of the TrueDark Twilight Elite.

They feature a very high quality premium frame that is made from aircraft grade aluminum, and the whole product itself certainly has a premium feel to it overall.

The hinges feature springs, which is a nice feature, and overall we were highly impressed by the Twilight Elite product quality.

However, we were a bit disappointed that there were not more options available when it comes to the styles on offer.

Night Swannies

We were pleased to find an impressive range of different styles on sale when it comes to the Night Swannies.

Swanwick Sleep Glasses

There are lots of high quality lenses on offer and they are all seemingly of high quality.

This is where the Swannies brand really comes into its own as it offers a really good range of different styles.

Importantly, the Swannies website also provides a fit guide, so that you can properly make sure that you can find a product that suits you.

OUR VERDICT: Swannies takes this round. Although the quality of the TrueDark Twilight Elite frames is very high, we were just a bit disappointed by the lack of different styles on offer.

What Are Customers Saying?

Now it’s time to start taking a look at what real customers are saying about both brands.

At the time of writing, the TrueDark Twilight Elites had an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars on Amazon.

One happy customer left a five-star review and said that they helped them with their sleep after wearing them around an hour before bed.

Swannies have a good reputation amongst customers too.

From their listing on Amazon, from more than 500 reviews, their night glasses had an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

OUR VERDICT: This round is a tie. We were very impressed by the feedback both of these brands were getting from customers. They seem to be well received and both companies seem to have a reputation for treating customers fairly.

Price

Now it’s time to take a close look at the all-important price of the two brands – which of TrueDark or Swannies offer the better value for money?

TrueDark Twilight Elite Close Up

TrueDark Price: The TrueDark Twilight Elites currently cost $89 if you’re buying them directly from the official website.

Night Swannies Price: The Night Swannies vary quite a lot in price depending on which frame you go for. The cheapest one costs $69 if you’re buying from the official website.

OUR VERDICT: This round is also a draw. Although Swannies offer slightly cheaper entry points, many of their glasses are pretty expensive and we feel that TrueDark provide better value for money in terms of product quality.

Anything Else to Consider?

Just remember that blue light blocking glasses are not going to solve all of your nighttime problems on their own.

Yes, they can make a difference when worn in the correct fashion, a few hours before bed, but they are not a magic cure.

It’s also important to note that you should not wear blue light blocking glasses while driving or operating machinery, as they make things pretty dark.

TrueDark vs Swannies – Our Recommendation

So, that brings us to the end of our look at TrueDark vs Swannies.

All in all, we think that TrueDark’s Twilight Elites and Twilight Classics just trump the Swannies, mainly because their lenses appear to block out more blue light, which is key for a nighttime lens.

Both brands are high quality and are trusted amongst customers, but we put TrueDark just ahead of Swannies in our rating.
