Michael Chandler paid tribute to ‘The King of Kings’ during his recent appearance at Fanatics Fest.
While Dana White may be exploring other crossover ideas to bring celebrities under the UFC banner, MMA has always been somewhat linked to pro wrestling.
Both the UFC and WWE are now under one roof with TKO, but there hasn’t been much collaboration between them.
The most notable example would be Chandler’s appearance on a WWE broadcast where he grabbed the mic and called out Conor McGregor ahead of their fight which didn’t end up happening.
‘Iron’ Mike’s love of WWE recently came to the forefront when he copied a signature move from the promotion’s current chief content officer.
Chael Sonnen offers high praise to Michael Chandler for his Triple H impression
When UFC star Michael Chandler made his appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York, an iconic music track played before he walked out onto the stage.
Fans already knew what to expect when ‘Iron’ Mike came out to Triple H’s entrance music but even then, they couldn’t have predicted that Chandler would nail one of the WWE star’s calling cards.
During his career, before he became a pivotal figure behind the scenes, Triple H (real name Paul Levesque) would slowly make his way down to the ring before stopping to pose on the apron.
‘The Game’ would then proceed to spurt a mist of water from his mouth in a move that is immediately identifiable no matter who does it.
Chandler performed the move, followed by a backflip for good measure, before earning rave reviews from another fighter who has links to the pro wrestling world, Chael Sonnen.
Michael Chandler revealed WWE talks earlier this week
As a fighter that always wants to go the extra mile to entertain the fans, Michael Chandler could be an ideal fit for the WWE.
Following a rough run of results after coming back from a long-hiatus, the 39-year-old appears to be winding down his MMA career.
Chandler recently revealed in an interview with The Schmo that he’s already had talks with Triple H about potentially making the switch from the Octagon to the ring.
“I was talking to Triple H about my WWE contract, so we’re trying to make that happen,” Chandler said. “He knows I’m a fan of WWE and him and the brand. He’s obviously a fan of what I bring to the table from an entertainment standpoint, what I can do on the microphone. He knows I want that door to be open, and I think he wants that door to be open too.”
Perhaps his callout of Conor McGregor won’t be the last time that Chandler appears on WWE TV.
