UFC fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett as he looks to work his way up the lightweight rankings and secure himself a title shot.

Pimblett’s UFC run so far has been nothing short of incredible. He has gone undefeated inside the promotion with a record of 7-0.

After his latest victory against Michael Chandler, fans have been wondering what could be next for the scouser.

Pimblett has called out three names at the top of the division. The current champion, Ilia Topuria and the top contenders, Arman Tsarukyan and Justin Gaethje.

Pimblett denies August fight rumours started by middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis

It has been rumoured for a while that Paddy Pimblett would be taking on Justin Gaethje next, but there has been nothing official posted regarding a fight between the two.

In a video posted to Dricus Du Plessis’ YouTube channel, he claimed that Pimblett would be facing Gaethje in the co-main event of UFC 319, which takes place August 16th.

Du Plessis is taking on the rising star Khamzat Chimaev in the main event of UFC 319, in what is one of the most highly anticipated title fights of 2025.

Paddy Pimblett shut down the rumours on X “Youse are mad if you think I’m fighting in August”, he wrote, with two laughing emojis.

Ilia Topuria wants to settle three-year-long feud

Back in 2022, there was an altercation between current lightweight champion Ilia Topuria and Pimblett, which saw the scouser throw a bottle of hand sanitiser at the Spaniard.

Since then, Pimblett and Topuria have thrown shots at one another. Many fans believed the fight would not happen, as when the feud began, the two were in separate weight classes.

But now that Topuria has moved up and captured the lightweight belt, after knocking out fan favourite Charles Olivera at UFC 317, the fight not only feels realistic, it feels inevitable.

After the fight, Pimblett entered the cage and squared off against the champion. Things even got physical as Topuria shoved Pimblett.

Topuria has welcomed the fight against Pimblett after years of bad blood had been brewing. But with the rumours that Pimblett will be fighting Gaethje, it is unclear if this fight will be made next.
