Stephen Curry urged the Golden State Warriors to find a resolution for Jonathan Kuminga’s ongoing contract saga.

Jonathan Kuminga’s contract talks have stalled the Golden State Warriors’ offseason. The two parties are unable to reach an agreement on a contract, resulting in a stalemate in the negotiations. Kuminga hadn’t talked to the Warriors in weeks until recently.

Kuminga, who thinks the Warriors stunted his growth, is willing to explore his options in the summer of 2026. He rejected the Warriors’ offer of two years for $45 million, and is instead open to taking a one-year qualifying offer of $7.9 million.

The uncertainty surrounding Kuminga’s contract has prevented the Warriors from making a single move this offseason. Their Hall of Famer, Stephen Curry, wants a resolution to the situation.

Stephen Curry said the Golden State Warriors need to make offseason moves

The Warriors are waiting to sign Al Horford among a host of other free agents. They cannot do so until the Kuminga saga is resolved. That means Golden State currently have nine players signed to their roster.

Meanwhile, Curry’s sole focus is on winning his fifth NBA championship. He said the Warriors need to make some moves in order for that to happen.

Speaking to reporters at his basketball camp, he said, “We have a really good team, and we know we need some pieces to help get us to the next level.

“The veteran presence we have, me, Jimmy [Butler], Draymond [Green], we understand how to prepare through that uncertainty and be able to hit the ground running in training camp, knowing we should have some movement by then.

“You can control what you can control, and no matter how many new experiences you have, the differences of this offseason versus different ones, you don’t let it affect your own personal preparation for the season and then the conversations we’re having on what we need to do to get ready.”

The Warriors need to resolve Kuminga’s contract in order to make moves. They’ll want to do this as quickly as possible.

Golden State Warriors’ talks with free agents could get uncomfortable as Jonathan Kuminga saga continues

During talks with Kuminga, the Warriors risk losing the rest of the free agents reportedly lined up to sign. While this isn’t problematic now, it soon could be.

Anthony Slater explained on NBA Today, “They are all waiting for Kuminga. From my understanding, they’re aware of this situation. They’re aware of the complexities, and they’re comfortable in this holding pattern because training camp is still a while away.

“I will say, August is a lot easier for people to say, ‘Okay, we’ll get to you when we get to you.’ September is where it starts to get a little bit more uncomfortable in this entire situation.

“I don’t know if there will be movement or a little bit more angst on the Warriors or Kuminga’s side. But September is where this could get diceier.”

The Warriors have rejected trades for Kuminga and haven’t budged on their contract offer. But Kuminga has all the leverage. He’s not incentivised to do anything right now, and he’s willing to take the qualifying offer, which would make the young talent untradeable.

Kuminga, like Golden State, knows the Warriors risk losing out on free agents the longer this goes on. That would ruin the title chances for one of the NBA’s all-time greats, and the Warriors’ greatest-ever player, Curry.
