Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal from the US Open Mixed Doubles tournament has been confirmed and fans are not happy.
Sinner’s illness forced his Cincinnati Open retirement against Carlos Alcaraz, and the Italian has now been confirmed to miss the inaugural doubles tournament.
Sinner was set to play alongside doubles specialist Kateřina Siniaková at the tournament, but now both stars have been replaced.
Doubles stars have criticised the US Open and now fans have slammed the decision to take away Siniakova’s chance to play in the tournament, dubbing it a travesty.

Fans despair as Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal means Katerina Siniakova misses the US Open
Sinner’s withdrawal was expected from fans, but they were stunned to see Siniakova miss out on the tournament completely.
Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison have taken the place of Sinner and Siniakova, much to the annoyance of fans.
“Not giving Siniakova a chance to re-pair is despicable,” said one fan on X, while another wrote: “Justice for Katka!”
Another fan wrote: “Poor Siniakova being tossed aside like an unwanted toy!” while one said: “It should be Siniakova and someone else!”
The controversial tournament kicks off at 4pm UK time on August 19 and will run until August 20 at Flushing Meadows.
How have the seeds been decided for the US Open?
There are four seeds at the US Open Mixed Doubles tournament, which will see 16 teams compete for the $1 million prize.
As the field is brimming with the finest talent from the singles, the seeds have been decided by the players’ joint ranking.
That means Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula are the number one seeds, with Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz in number two.
Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud are the third seeds, while Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune earned the final seed.
