Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu pocket $20,000 despite US Open defeat

Alcaraz and Raducanu were outclassed by Pegula and Draper in the first round of the US Open Mixed Doubles tournament.

There were plenty of eyes on the duo at the US Open, but Raducanu and Alcaraz had their serve broken in the very first game.

Draper and Pegula looked a class above Raducanu and Alcaraz, the latter of whom rushed over from the Cincinnati Open after his victory at the ATP 1000 event.

Alcaraz and Raducanu’s exit means they pocket $20,000 for their display at the US Open, while Draper and Pegula have earned a minimum of $100,000.

Raducanu and Alcaraz lost the match in straight sets at the US Open, meaning both have several days to prepare for the singles.

Why Carlos Alcaraz was desperate to play the US Open with Emma Raducanu

Many expected Alcaraz to pull out of the US Open Mixed Doubles tournament after getting to the Cincinnati Open final.

Alcaraz hopped on a private jet to rush over to Flushing Meadows to join Raducanu for the doubles tournament and he’s explained why.

“The scheduling isn’t the best, playing tomorrow.. but the concept of the tournament I love it”, revealed Alcaraz in Cincinnati.

The US Open starts an incredibly hectic campaign for Alcaraz, which also includes the Laver Cup and Davis Cup.
