Carlos Alcaraz made history by defeating future two-time Grand Slam winner at the age of 15

Carlos Alcaraz has achieved incredible things in his short career, but he’s been making history since his very first game.

The Spaniard has won five Grand Slams already in the six years since his debut, including a thrilling Roland Garros 2025 win over Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz will be looking for his third Wimbledon on the trot at this year’s event, after winning both the 2023 and 2024 competition.

The star has been making history since his very first game; however, when he became the youngest player to ever win a Challenger event. The Spaniard picked up a win over one one his future rivals.

Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest Challenger winner ever by beating Jannik Sinner

Alcaraz has long been considered one of the hottest prospects in the sport and it didn’t take him long to make his professional debut.

In April 2019, Alcaraz made his Challenger debut at the JC Ferrero Challenger in Villena, after receiving a wild card.

His first match in the professional game was a success, and he beat a fellow future Grand Slam winner to make history.

The Spaniard defeated a then-17-year-old Jannik Sinner in three sets by a close run scoreline of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

With the monumental victory over his rival, Alcaraz became the first player born in 2003 to win a Challenger match.

It was fitting that the tournament took place at the Juan Carlos Ferrero Challenger, as the former World No. 1 has been coaching Alcaraz since 2019.

Alcaraz and Sinner’s rivalry is great for tennis, says fellow pro

Alcaraz and Sinner’s rivalry was yet again put into the spotlight with their sensational Roland Garros final.

Jack Draper, who watched the final along with millions of other fans, has called the pair’s rivalry important to the sport. The World No. 6 said Alcaraz and Sinner are “dragging more attention to the sport.”

At the Queen’s press conference, the Brit continued: “That only helps them, helps players like myself, helps the game in general to keep on moving in the right direction and keep developing.”

Alcaraz and Sinner have met 12 times across the ATP Tour, with the Spaniard having won eight of their games together.
