Carlos Alcaraz has been in inspired form at the US Open 2025, but he’ll need a career first to reach the final.

Alcaraz is yet to drop a set at the US Open, and he could become the first player in history to win the tournament without doing so.

Standing in Alcaraz’s way is Novak Djokovic, who is looking to win his 25th Grand Slam at the Flushing Meadows.

If Alcaraz comes through his match with the tennis great, he’ll achieve a career first at the American Grand Slam.

Carlos Alcaraz is yet to beat Novak Djokovic on hard-court

Djokovic and Alcaraz have met eight times on the ATP Tour since their first meeting at the 2022 Madrid Open.

The Serbian leads the head-to-head with five wins over the Spaniard, and Djokovic will be confident heading into their semi-final meeting at the US Open despite Alcaraz’s exquisite form.

Alcaraz is yet to beat Djokovic on a hard court, losing both of their meetings on the surface at the Australian Open and the Cincinnati Open.

Two of Alcaraz’s wins came in the Wimbledon final in 2023 and 2024, with the other happening on the clay in Madrid in 2022.

Despite his dominance against anyone not named Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz’s last win over Djokovic was over a year ago at Wimbledon in 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz wants ‘revenge’ against Novak Djokovic

There are not many players that Alcaraz has a losing head-to-head against, World No. 1 Sinner included, but that is the case with Djokovic.

Alcaraz is still seething from his quarter-final exit from the Australian Open at the start of 2025, which saw him lose to the Serbian in four sets.

“I know he and I played a lot of times,” explained the World No. 2 at his US Open press conference after defeating Jiri Lehecka.

“I really want revenge,” explained Alcaraz. That’s obvious,” he said about his upcoming match with the 14-time Grand Slam champion.

Alcaraz and Djokovic play on September 5, with the order of play yet to be announced by the tournament.
