Cody Rhodes has finally broken his silence on his ill-received WrestleMania 41 match with John Cena.

Rhodes lost his WWE Championship to Cena in the main event of the Las Vegas show, which was heavily criticised by fans.

The appearance of Travis Scott came under fire in particular, with fans suggesting the match wasn’t good enough to top the bill at WWE’s biggest show of the year.

Rhodes has suggested there was one person to blame for the match not going the way the fans expected.

Cody Rhodes blames himself for poor John Cena match

Rhodes’ win over Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finals at Night of Champions will see him face Cena again in the main event of SummerSlam.

The star has told fans the match will be better and he places the blame with himself for the way their last match went.

“If people felt a certain way about WrestleMania, I will put that all on my back and take all the credit and responsibility for perhaps not feeling satisfied,” said Rhodes on Busted Open Radio.

I’d like to get ‘em to the finish line with SummerSlam,” added the American Nightmare. “Very much looking forward to doing this dance again.”

Rhodes is widely expected to win back the WWE Championship at SummerSlam, which will play into Cena turning babyface again for the remainder of his retirement tour.

John Cena’s retirement tour will see him hang up his boots in December 2025 after 35 final dates across the year.

What else will be on the SummerSlam card?

SummerSlam is WWE’s second biggest show of the year and 2025 is the first time the event will take place over two nights.

As such, it’s expected to be one of the biggest events in the company’s history, and Triple H will surely stack it with high-profile matches.

Seth Rollins and CM Punk are expected to have their third and final singles matches after The Architect cost the star in his match with Cena.

Likewise, Roman Reigns will be in action for the first time since WrestleMania 41, while Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria should have their blow-off match for the Intercontinental Championship.

SummerSlam takes place on August 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
