Tennis fans are in awe of the ‘shot of the tournament’ so far on day two of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
The first round of Wimbledon action has seen some gripping drama. A record 23 seeded players crashed out in the first round, Carlos Alcaraz survived a scare against Fabio Fognini, and Jannik Sinner impressed in a dominant display.

We also saw what could end up being the shot of the tournament by the end of the fortnight. Corentin Moutet pulled off a cheeky shot at the net in his game against Francisco Comesañ, which left the tennis world in awe.
Fans react to Moutet’s ‘magic’ shot
In the third and deciding set of Moutet’s straight sets win, he pulled off an audacious shot at the net. Comesañ was deep on the baseline after returning a lob, and Moutet lined up what everybody expected to be a smash from the net.
Instead, he dropped his racquet between his legs and pulled off a “tweener” drop shot. He looked almost embarrassed to have pulled it off, and Comesañ came to the net to congratulate his opponent on the shot afterwards.
One fan said they had never seen anything like it on X, “Now there is something I have never seen in all my years of being a tennis fan. A tweener drop shot.” Another, equally in awe, said “One of the greatest shots of all time.”
It’s not the first time Moutet has pulled off something like this. It’s not even the first time this year. At the 2025 Indian Wells, he made a tweener drop shot from the baseline to win a point.
He also made a tweener lob on Novak Djokovic in Paris.
Other fans were quick to praise Moutet on his growing repertoire of incredible shots.
One fan said, “Been watching Corentin for a few years now. You never know what to expect….”. Another agreed, “No one does whacky shots better than him.”
It was only day two of Wimbledon, but some fans have already claimed that it is the best shot we will see at this year’s tournament. “Shot of the tournament” was the call from a number of fans.

Moutet faces ‘baby Federer’ in the second round
Moutet faces a sterner test in Wimbledon’s second round, as he takes on world number 19 from Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov. But don’t expect that to limit the Frenchman’s creativity. In his ATP Tour bio, he lists drop shots and volleys as his favourite shots. He’s never afraid to use the entire court.
The 26-year-old even hit an incredible drop shot in the build-up to his tweener in the first round. He drew Comesañ to the net with an effortless slice backhand, which caught the line to the millimetre.
Dimitrov is a tricky opponent to pull off those shots against, however. He’s an elegant player, known as “baby Fed” earlier in his career due to his Federer-like play style.
He’s past his prime at 34, unable to quite cover the court like he used to, but Moutet should use his tricks with caution or risk being caught out.
