Jannik Sinner may have suffered intense disappointment at Roland Garros, but he still stands at the top of the ATP Tour rankings.

Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros despite a two-set lead and multiple match points against the Spaniard.

Sinner won the Australian Open in January and still remains the World No. 1 despite his three-month ban between February and May.

His stint as the World No. 1 has helped him beat an exceptional Novak Djokovic record.

Jannik Sinner has passed Novak Djokovic’s first stint as World No. 1

The Italian has been World No. 1 since June 10 of last year, a remarkable 54 weeks at the top of the ATP Tour.

This week has seen him pass Djokovic’s first-ever World No. 1 stretch of 53 weeks between 2011 and 2012.

Sinner is now fourth in the rankings for the longest first-time at the top of the ATP Rankings, according to Tennis.com, behind some of the biggest legends in the game.

Sinner’s 53 weeks at the top is only beaten by Lleyton Hewitt’s run between 2001 and 2003, Jimmy Connors between 1974 and 1977, and Roger Federer between 2004 and 2008.

In order to beat Hewitt’s record of 75 weeks, Sinner would need to hold onto his World No. 1 status until November 9.

Jannik Sinner looks to bounce back from Roland Garros defeat

After breaking Djokovic’s record, Sinner has turned his attention toward his first grass court tournament of the year at Halle.

The Italian has put his defeat to Alcaraz behind him and looks to cement his status as the best player in the world.

“I’ll try to forget the negative stuff and see what I can do here,” in an interview with Sinner to Tennis TV.

“I think playing in a tournament again is positive for me because every game starts at 0-0 and you always have to be mentally prepared to fight for every point on the court.”
