Jannik Sinner’s coach has lifted the lid on the star’s emotions in the locker room after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final.
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros, in what has been widely regarded as one of the best finals of the last decade.
Former players were stunned by Alcaraz and Sinner’s levels in Paris as the Spaniard came from two sets down to win in a five-hour-plus epic.
Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, has confirmed what the star’s mood was like in the locker room after the match.

Jannik Sinner shed ‘a few tears’ after Carlos Alcaraz defeat
Sinner’s coach, Cahill, appeared on the Andy Roddick’s Served Media and talk predictably turned towards the Roland Garros final.
The tennis coach was asked what he said to Sinner after the devastating defeat to Alcaraz, and what the Italian’s mood was like in the locker room.
“We barely said anything, to be perfectly honest. After the match clearly there was disappointment,” said Cahill.
“He sat in the locker room for a good 15 or 20 minutes. Each one of us in his team came up and gave him a hug,” added Cahill.
Sinner was clearly distraught after throwing away three championship points against his great rival, which Cahill confirmed.
“We told him we were really proud of him, proud of his effort. But there’s no perfect time to give him a speech about what we can learn from it,” said Cahill.
The coach continued: “We’re going to move on from it. You have to show a little bit of empathy for what he’s going through. [There was] sadness, a few tears for everybody.”
Sinner is preparing for Wimbledon by playing Halle in Germany, while Alcaraz is set to play at Queen’s Club in London.
Alcaraz starts his campaign off against fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, while Sinner will play Yannick Hanfmann.
Jannik Sinner still thinks about Roland Garros final
It’s clear that Sinner’s loss to Alcaraz in Paris will stay with him for a long time, with those championship points lingering over the Italian.
Sinner described the Roland Garros defeat as ‘tough’ to Tennis TV, but wanted to take the positives from the defeat.
He continued: “You can see the negative side, but there is also a positive side. I’ve never played tennis on clay like this.”
The World No. 1 is looking to win his first-ever Wimbledon at SW19 in July, after previously making the semi-final in 2023.
