John McEnroe explains why the US Open is ‘more interesting’ than Wimbledon this year

John McEnroe is an expert on Wimbledon and the US Open, having won seven Grand Slam titles between the events, but he believes the American tournament is better than the British one in 2025.

Jannik Sinner won Wimbledon 2025 against Carlos Alcaraz and there’s a high chance the US Open final is the same.

McEnroe’s insightful commentary rings out at both tournaments, but he believes the US Open has the edge over Wimbledon this year.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion believes one key aspect puts the US Open above Wimbledon in 2025.

John McEnroe says the US Open’s fast courts make them ‘more interesting’

The Wimbledon organisers tried to combat big servers and longer baseline rallies by slowing down the grass courts at SW19 this year.

McEnroe believes the US Open’s faster courts have introduced a more varied style of play between the top players, namely Sinner and Alcaraz.

“Ironically, the courts here at the US Open are quite fast, and I think that makes them more interesting,” said McEnroe in an interview with Bartoli Time.

The American icon added: “Players have to be more comfortable coming to the net. [Jannik] Sinner has worked hard on that.”

Sinner and Alcaraz have made it to the quarter-finals of the US Open with relative ease, with the pair dropping just one set between them.

John McEnroe prefers Carlos Alcaraz to Jannik Sinner

In the same interview, the American explained why he would always prefer to watch the Spaniard over Sinner.

“I have to say that Carlos Alcaraz is my favourite player to watch,” McEnroe revealed. “And that’s mainly because he’s willing to do anything and try anything.”

“He’s not content to just play from the baseline,” added McEnroe. “Players have been playing like that for a long time, and it’s become a bit repetitive, with the same style of play.”

Alcaraz and Sinner are widely expected to meet in the US Open final, which would be their third Grand Slam final meeting.
