Novak Djokovic survived an early scare to sail through to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon against Alex De Minaur.

Djokovic dropped the first set to the Australian, but responded by taking the next three in a four-set victory.

The Serbian set up a quarter-final clash against Flavio Cobolli, but he had to work for it against De Minaur.

He struggled to get to grips with De Minaur, with John McEnroe making retirement claims on Wimbledon commentary.

The star was watched on by Roger Federer and he sent the tennis icon a message after his Wimbledon victory.

Novak Djokovic makes Roger Federer joke after Wimbledon win

Djokovic didn’t take long to turn his attention to his old rival Federer, who was sat in the Centre Court Royal Box.

Opening up about his troubles against De Minaur, Djokovic told the BBC: “Sometimes I wish I had a serve and volley and nice touch from the gentleman that’s standing there. That would help.”

The star also revealed his win has broken the curse of Federer constantly watching him lose matches. “It’s probably the first time he’s watched me and I’ve won the match, ” said Djokovic.

“The last couple I lost,” said the 24-time Grand Slam champion, before adding “It’s good to break the curse.”

Djokovic secured his 16th Wimbledon quarter-final with his fourth round victory over De Minaur.

Novak Djokovic plays down injury fears

Fans feared for Djokovic during his match with De Minaur as the Serbian continued to clutch his chest and sternum during the match.

The World No. 6 played down fears about an injury, suggesting he was just dealing with the lengthy rallies.

“No, it was all good,” Djokovic told the BBC after his win. “I was just trying to manage my breathing at times.”

Djokovic continued: “After 30-shot rallies from the back of the court, you obviously need a breather, and you don’t have much time. Maybe that was the case.”

Djokovic suffered from stomach issues during his first-round match with Alexandre Muller at the start of the tournament.
