Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has dropped a major prediction about Novak Djokovic as retirement rumors swirl.
Novak Djokovic cast doubt over his career after crashing out of Roland Garros in three straight sets to Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic has struggled on the ATP Tour in 2025, although he has been tipped by former pro Andy Roddick to win Wimbledon.
The tennis icon suggested the 2025 tournament could be his last French Open as the Serbian looks to wind down his career.
Now, legendary tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has suggested the 24-time Grand Slam winner has lost motivation.

Patrick Mouratoglou says Novak Djokovic has ‘lost motivation’
Serena Williams’ former coach has suggested Djokovic’s career has suffered thanks to the retirement of two of his greatest rivals.
“It’s not about the tennis, it’s more about the mental side of it,” said Mouratoglou on Instagram. “I felt he did accept a little bit too much the dominance of Sinner on him, which is not Novak.”
He continued: “I didn’t see Novak I know, and I still think his motivation is not high enough. It’s there, but I don’t know where it is exactly.”
The coach has suggested Djokovic has lost motivation due to the lack of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on the tour.
“Everybody was fan of Roger, everybody was fan of Rafa, everybody was saying they were the best players in the world, and he wanted to prove that he was the best,” he said.
“I think that was something that really drove him,” Mouratoglou added. “He lost his drive for the reason that he’s the greatest.”
Federer retired in 2022, while Nadal called time on his career after the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Djokovic is 38 and hasn’t won a Grand Slam since 2023.
Novak Djokovic drops major retirement claim
While many think Djokovic will call time on his career in the immediate future, the Serbian has revealed the only thing that keeps him motivated.
The Serbian bizarrely said he has eyes on the Olympic Games in 2028 despite suggestions he’s ready to retire.
“The only thing on my mind right now, and the only thing that motivates me, is the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles,” said Djokovic to (Ne)uspjeh prvaka.
Djokovic won the Paris Olympics in 2024, picking up the first Gold Medal of his career. Should Djokovic play in the next Olympics he’ll be 41 years old.
