British rising star Oliver Tarvet secured a tantalising second-round match with Carlos Alcaraz after beating Leandro Riedi for his debut Wimbledon win, but he won’t receive his full prize money.
Tarvet beat his Swiss opponent in straight sets and he’s confident he can end Carlos Alcaraz’s Wimbledon hopes.
The World No. 719 should have £99,000 in prize money after his debut Wimbledon scalp, but that’s not going to be the case.
The Briton will be paid a fraction of that for a bizarre reason that has stunned fans and pundits in the tennis world.

Oliver Tarvet will not receive full prize money for defeating Carlos Alcaraz
Tarvet will only receive £7,290 for winning his first-round match at Wimbledon due to his schooling at the University of San Diego.
The Briton is still in his final year at the American university and, as such, is competing in Wimbledon as an amateur.
It means the rest of his prize money will go to his university, although he will be able to claim tennis expenses.
At his Wimbledon press conference, Tarvet joked: “I’ve got to find £60,000 – £70,000 of expenses – tennis is an expensive sport.”
The British star has suggested he will try to stretch out his expenses in order to help him further his career.
“I hope to get the prize money and use that money as expenses,” said Tarvet. “I will try and do everything I can to make that work out and to find X amount of expenses so I’m under $10,000 of profit.”
Alcaraz and Tarvet will play on July 2, with the court and time yet to be decided by the All England Club.
Which other Britons are in action at Wimbledon?
There are 23 Britons in the men’s and women’s draws at this year’s Wimbledon, which is the most since 1984.
Both British No. 1s Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper provide Britons biggest chance of becoming the first player from the Isles to win the tournament since Andy Murray in 2013.
