Angelique Kerber has earned the eighth and final spot at the season-ending WTA Championships after reaching the semi-finals of the Linz Open in Austria.
The German world No10 beat home favourite Patricia Mayr-Achleitner 6-3 6-1 to reach the last four and book her place in Istanbul later this month.
“I am so excited to be returning to Istanbul for the WTA Championships,” said Kerber after her win on Friday.
“The fans last year were amazing and I look forward for the chance to play against the best players in the world.”
After a spectacular 2012 that saw her win her first two WTA titles and rise as high as No5 in the world, Kerber produced another strong season in 2013.
She reached finals at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, where she fell to fellow left-hander Petra Kvitova, and the Monterrey Open, where she was runner-up to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
The 25-year-old was also a quarter-finalist at the Brisbane International, Mutua Madrid Open, Citi Open and China Open, while consistency was her overall theme at the Grand Slams, reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open, French Open and US Open.
Kerber will appear at the WTA Championships for the second time, after making her event debut in 2012.
For the second year in a row – and only the second time in the tournament’s 43-year history – each player in the singles draw will represent a different country.
