Bret Hart was adamant about who the best wrestler in the world was, and later explained why it absolutely was not Gunther.
Bret Hart is often cited as one of the best to ever step into a ring, with the Canadian’s legendary career earning him two WWE Hall of Fame inductions and seven World Championships.
Gunther, on the other hand, has been one of the biggest breakout stars of the Triple H era. The star has lost just four times on the main roster, and Gunther is expected to be John Cena’s final WWE opponent.
However, Hart is no fan of Gunther and he explained exactly why as he also named his favourite current performers.

Bret Hart believes CM Punk is the best wrestler in the world
The icon named three current WWE stars when asked about the best wrestler in the world today in a recent interview.
Asked by Complex Sports about the best wrestler in the world today, the WWE Hall of Famer named three stars, before settling on his answer.
“I’m forever a Rey Mysterio fan,” said Hart. “I love watching Rey even now today, especially as he gets older. But I’m also a big fan of Roman Reigns,” continued the legend.
However, Hart then settled on one of the biggest stars in the industry currently. “I think if I had to answer the question, I’d say CM Punk,” confirmed Hart.
It appears Punk’s moniker of ‘the best in the world’ is not just a nickname, as one of the greatest to ever do it has given him his seal of approval.
The star has often been outspoken about his thoughts on modern wrestling, and one star he’s very unlikely to pick is former World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther.
Bret Hart called Gunther ‘lazy’ for his constant use of chops
Gunther is widely considered one of the best professional wrestlers in the world, but that is not an opinion Hart subscribes to.
He believes Gunther’s chops are unnecessary, especially because they end up legitimately hurting his opponents.
“The best wrestling has to pretend to be real,” explained the 68-year-old in an interview with The Masked Man Show.
Hart then mentioned Gunther by name for his work, explaining why he’s not a fan of the two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
“Contrary to that Gunther guy, who seems like a nice enough guy when I met him, but I hate wrestlers that hurt each other on purpose,” said Hart.
“I have no respect for guys that hurt each other all the time,” continued Hart. “It’s just to me, lazy, s— wrestling when guys like Gunther…I’ve told him this to his face, it’s bulls—.”
Gunther’s chops have become one of the most famous aspects of the Austrian’s arsenal, as fans look forward to the star roughing up his opponents.
The Ring General’s most recent match came against Punk in the night one main event of SummerSlam, which most fans praised as one of the best matches of the entire weekend.
