John Cena successfully worked complaints from the fans into his heel persona on SmackDown.

A significant number of names have been released from WWE’s roster so far in 2025 with the latest name to depart the company causing a big reaction.

Ron Killings, more commonly known as R-Truth, announced via social media on June 1 that he had been released from the promotion after being with WWE since 2008.

This led to fans and fellow wrestlers showing a lot of support for the comedy character, with former WWE star Baron Corbin claiming that ‘loyalty no longer matters’.

The impact of R-Truth’s departure has been felt on WWE programming ever since, with fans chanting his name during several televised episodes, which then led to John Cena addressing the complaints.

John Cena earns praise from the fans after he redirects R-Truth chants back at the crowd on SmackDown

During John Cena’s segment on SmackDown, which served as the go-home angle for the upcoming Money in the Bank PLE on June 7 in California, the fans could clearly be heard chanting for R-Truth.

As calls of ‘we want Truth’ echoed out around the Dignity Health Center in Bakersfield, Cena picked up the mic while standing side-by-side with his tag team partner for June 7, Logan Paul.

The WWE champion’s response shocked the fans in attendance before he went on to cut a promo.

“You can’t handle the truth! You want our truth? Our truth is right here! Staring you in the face and there’s not a damn thing you, or anyone who fights for you, can do about it. You hypocrites chant for Truth, you are all pathetic liars.”

While the complaints from fans regarding R-Truth’s departure are completely legitimate, the reaction on social media to Cena’s comments was largely positive after he threw the chants back at the crowd.

‘John Cena acknowledging the we want truth Chants is awesome… Even if it was in a heel way, love it lol.’

‘Untouchable’

‘The best to ever do it on the Mic’

‘I’m sorry, but Cena is KILLING this heel role! You gotta admit it!’

‘John basically told everybody without actually saying it that you can’t accept the fact that R-Truth is gone.’

‘This is why he will remain the goat. A fire promo in a long time and it was all off script. All him. Let him cook!!!!’

‘Damn. Love how he turned the Truth chants on the crowd’
