John Cena’s retirement tour is in full swing, but there’s still plenty of avenue to explore for the 17-time champion to explore.
The star, who is set to retire in December 2025, has competed against some of the biggest stars in the company this year.
Matches with Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and R-Truth have taken place, while John Cena is set to face CM Punk at Night of Champions.
With six months left of his retirement tour, here are three stars Cena should face before hanging up his boots.
AJ Styles
The Phenomenal One, AJ Styles, looks like he’s going to quietly retire in the next 12 months, so one more match with Cena should be a real closing chapter.
The pair could not be more different when it comes to personality and in-ring work, but when they get together inside the squared circle they often make magic.
Their SummerSlam match in 2016 is widely considered a classic, and they’ve also had fantastic bouts at Money in the Bank and Royal Rumble.
The perfect time for their final match would be Clash in Paris in August, a country where Styles is incredibly popular.
His overwhelming babyface reaction would be superb contrasted with Cena’s current polarising heel character.
Logan Paul
The tension was certainly palpable between Logan Paul and Cena during their tag team match against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso at Money in the Bank.
Cena has gone on record as being a fan of The Maverick, particularly after his win over Styles at WrestleMania 41.
However, the two men did not gel as a tag team and it looked like the clues were sprinkled for a potential match between the pair.
How good the quality of the match would be is questionable, but the star power alone would make this bout worth it.
Cody Rhodes (again)
After their disappointing match at WrestleMania 41, Cena and Rhodes absolutely have to face each other again before the 17-time champion retires.
Rhodes looks set to be Cena’s successor as the face of the company, and it’s likely he will be the one to dethrone the star of his WWE Championship.
The two men are clearly capable of putting on a classic, and moving away from Cena’s outright heel nature and Travis Scott lingering over proceedings should make that the case.
It would be surprising if Rhodes doesn’t act as Cena’s final-ever opponent, with the star passing the torch to the American Nightmare.
Gunther
Before Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber, Gunther vs the retiring star looked to be the biggest lay-up in the industry.
Gunther has been booked supremely as a monster heel since Triple H took over WWE in 2022, and Cena made his name as a plucky heel.
Their match now Cena is a heel might be a little bit more muddy, but the two men still have the power to put on an epic.
If Cena stays with the WWE Championship past SummerSlam, there’s every chance they could meet in a champion vs champion clash at Crown Jewel.
Joe Hendry
Scottish megastar Joe Hendry has been angling for a match with the 17-time champion all year and there’s every chance it could still happen.
WWE seems extremely hot on the TNA star, having recently let the wrestler make his WrestleMania debut against Randy Orton.
There’s certainly a story to tell between Cena and Hendry, especially as the Scotsman has been a huge fan of the icon since he was a teenager.
Whether Cena can squeeze Hendry in is anyone’s guess, but he should be near the top of the list for potential opponents.
