John Cena is one of the most popular WWE stars of all time, but who is his favourite superstar in wrestling?
Cena is expected to retire from WWE this year after a retirement tour that sees him perform several times across 2025.
He’s currently faced the likes of Randy Orton, R-Truth, and CM Punk on his retirement tour, with another match against Cody Rhodes lined up for SummerSlam.
Back in 2014, the star stunned fans by picking a controversial WWE icon as his favourite wrestler of all time.
John Cena picked Vince McMahon as his favourite WWE star
Cena was asked by WWE.com in 2014 who is favourite wrestler was and he didn’t hesitate to pick his former boss.
“Any time he comes out, something serious, weird, or seriously weird is going to happen,” explained Cena about McMahon.
The two men famously crossed paths in one of the worst WWE Raw matches in history in 2006, an irony that is not lost on Cena.
“When I wrestled him in 2006, it was awful, but he knows how to entertain,” said Cena about the man who made him the star he became.
Cena has often changed his mind on his favourite wrestler, also naming the likes of Orton and Andre the Giant at the top of his list.

Despite picking McMahon as his favourite wrestler, Cena did also pick another WWE icon for his favourite entrance of all time.
The 17-time champion opted for WWE legend ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin’s ‘glass shattering’, hell raising entrance.

Cena famously never wrestled Austin throughout his illustrious two-decade WWE career and it will likely never happen.
