WWE planned a Mike Tyson vs Triple H ‘boxer vs wrestler’ match in 2001, but ‘ludicrous’ reason stopped it

Mike Tyson very nearly competed in an incredible WrestleMania match with Triple H in 2001, but plans fell apart.

Mike Tyson famously appeared at WrestleMania 14, where he helped Steve Austin defeat Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship.

He later wrestled on a 2010 episode of WWE Raw, alongside Chris Jericho, against Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

Triple H, now in charge of WWE, revealed he was supposed to face Iron Mike in a WWE match, but plans changed for one key reason.

Mike Tyson asked for ‘ludicrous’ money to wrestle Triple H at WrestleMania X7

Triple H revealed plans to face Tyson in a WWE.com interview back in 2014, but said Tyson’s asking price was simply too high.

“We were going to do me vs. [Mike] Tyson in a boxer vs. wrestler match at WrestleMania X-Seven,” confirmed The Game, before revealing some bizarre details about what the match would look like.

“We were going to do six rounds. I don’t remember if it was going to be full boxing rules, or whether I was wearing gloves,” added WWE’s Chief Content Officer.

The Game revealed the plans were scrapped when they found out just how much Iron Mike wanted to compete in the match.

“But it ended up being a deal where the whole thing just would have been a ludicrous amount of money, and it got pushed off,” said The Game.

Tyson continued a partnership with WWE and was even inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame in 2012.

Mike Tyson preferred WWE to AEW

Tyson made several appearances with WWE’s rival company, AEW, during its infancy as a company in 2019 and 2020.

However, the boxing icon revealed he’d much prefer a return to WWE in the future after having a taste of both companies.

“Tony Khan and those guys, these guys wanted to put me on the show and stuff before,” Tyson said on Hot Boxin’.

“I don’t care if they got more money,” added the legendary boxer. “Vince put on the show, I’d rather go there, even though [AEW] pay more money.”

Tyson’s most recent combat sports appearance was facing Jake Paul in a star-studded Netflix boxing match.
