Five fights Jake Paul could take next after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr victory including Tommy Fury rematch

Jake Paul took another leap forward in his quest to rule the world of boxing with a convincing victory against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Paul and Chavez Jr made over £7m as ‘The Problem Child’ made a mockery of his Mexican opponent to win by unanimous decision.

In his post-fight interview, the American listed a host of names he’d like to fight, including the possibility of a rematch against Tommy Fury.

His latest win has propelled him into the top 15 of the heavyweight rankings and therefore opened the door to a possible title fight.

So, with that, here are five potential fights that Jake Paul could take next.

Canelo Alvarez

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is the most unlikely one, but a name that has to be thrown into the suggestions.

Paul has always wanted to fight Canelo and it does feel like it will happen one day, however, with the Mexican fighting Terence Crawford in September, a rain check will take place on the idea for now.

It’s one that the YouTuber-turned boxer will be keeping an eye on very closely as he plans out his next steps.

Deontay Wilder

Deontay Wilder marked his return to the ring with a win against Tyrell Hendon after a couple of difficult fights in the last few years but make no mistake, the ‘Bronze Bomber’ would still be a formidable match.

Wilder is renowned for having one of the best power punches in the sport and boxing pundit Steve Bunce has suggested that the duo fighting in America is appealing.

Writing for BBC Sport, he said: “If someone called you tomorrow and said, ‘Wilder v Paul next,’ you wouldn’t flinch.

“Wilder v Paul outdoors in America later this year? It’s not impossible. Stranger things have happened.

“Because every fighter wants to be in the Paul business. You can’t find me a boxer from middleweight to heavyweight who wouldn’t fight Paul at the drop of a hat for the type of money on display.”

Tommy Fury

An obvious one here. Tommy Fury is the only fighter to have officially beaten Paul and that’s something the American can’t stand.

Before Chavez Jr, there’s no way that Fury would’ve been open to a rematch but now the tables are turning.

Not only is Paul a huge pay day, a rematch between the two would generate millions of PPV sales and for whoever won, their stock and chances of landing a big fight increase tenfold. Not to mention the possibility of bragging rights.

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis

Live on DAZN, Paul called out five different names and Gervonta Davis was one of those.

Paul said he wants ‘tougher fighters’ and that certainly fits the bill.

One thing to note though is the weight difference between the two. Paul stated earlier this year that any fight between the two would take place at 195lbs as part of an exhibition fight but to undergo a transformation like that for both would be huge.

It could even be one of the biggest weight differences in history but if anyone knows Paul and ‘Tank’, it’s that they both like to test themselves.

Anthony Joshua

It’s all gone quiet in the Anthony Joshua camp, but Paul mentioning his name may spring him back into life.

Joshua made light work of Francis Ngannou when they met in the boxing ring but it feels like this sort of fight would be a different story.

The British heavyweight star is still licking the wounds from his defeat to Daniel Dubois and is unlikely to dine at the top table again.

However, Paul will see this as a chance to improve his stock even further and potentially end AJ’s career for good.
