Julio Cesar Chavez is a boxing hall of famer and one of the pound-for-pound greats.
The Mexican was named as the world’s best boxer between 1990-1993 by Ring Magazine and was a three-weight world champion.
Chavez won everything there was to win and was even named by ESPN as one of their 50 Greatest Boxers of All Time.
Success runs in his family and his son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr also won three world titles, but never hit the heights of his dad.
In fact, his father was so successful that he holds a record that is unlikely to ever be beaten.

Julio Cesar Chavez has a Guinness World Record for title fights
Throughout his career it felt like Chavez was involved in a huge title fight at every moment.
As one of the greatest fighters of all time, that is true and by the time he retired, the Mexican had competed in 37 world title fights.
Still to this day, as per the Guinness World Record archives, that is a record. All 37 of those came between 1984 and 2000 in the super featherweight, lightweight and light welterweight divisions
Behind Chavez in the pecking order is Bernard Hopkins on 36 and then Omar Narvaez in third on 32.
| Boxer | Number of title fights won |
| Julio Cesar Chavez | 37 |
| Bernard Hopkins | 36 |
| Omar Narvaez | 32 |
| Oscar De La Hoya | 29 |
| Virgil Hill | 29 |
Can anyone beat Julio Cesar Chavez’s record?
It seems like nothing more than wishful thinking to suggest that Chavez’s record will be beaten.
Terence Crawford has had 16 world title fights but now 39, it’s unlikely he will fight many more after his upcoming bout against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue is on 10 and but he is 32 and therefore also unlikely.
Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez is still young and has plenty in the locker so maybe one day in the future he could get near, however, he would have to become a lot more active in order to do so.
