The Hungarian Grand Prix has rolled back around once again for the 2025 season, with Oscar Piastri leading the way in the drivers’ championship right before the summer break.

As it stands, McLaren have been the standout team this campaign, with both of their cars consistently performing at the very top.

While there is still plenty of the season left to go, both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are in contention to win the drivers’ championship as they battle it out at the top.

There will be plenty of twists and turns ahead, but both stars will be looking to take some much-needed momentum with them into the upcoming break by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix over their teammate.

For Piastri, it’s an opportunity to recreate history at a track that he has fond memories of from last season.

Oscar Piastri celebrated ‘special’ maiden F1 win at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix

Many F1 drivers will never forget their maiden Grand Prix win, which marks the culmination of years of hard work.

For Oscar Piastri, that first triumph came at the Hungaroring in 2024, where the Australian guided his McLaren to the top of the podium.

He finished two seconds ahead of his teammate Lando Norris and 14 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton in third.

Upon winning the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2024, Piastri said: “[It’s] very, very special. This is really the day I dreamed of as a kid, standing on the top step of an F1 podium…

“It’s a hell of a lot of fun racing for McLaren, so I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to be in F1, and to be able to win together 18 months in is an incredible feeling.”

After taking many years to work his way up to F1, his first victory in Hungary has certainly set the tone for the past year of action.

Piastri has since won seven races, putting himself in pole position when it comes to this season’s drivers’ championship.

Oscar Piastri will want to use Hungary Grand Prix experience for Lando Norris advantage

Fast forward to 2025, and Piastri has plenty more wins under his belt in F1 and has gone from a maiden win to leading the drivers’ championship.

It appears to be a straight shootout between the Australian star and his McLaren teammate Lando Norris – unless there are a few surprising twists and turns in store.

A 16-point gap has opened up after recent race weekends, but Piastri will be keen to extend that further ahead of the summer break.

The 24-year-old now has that experience of winning the Hungarian Grand Prix, something he will be wanting to use to his advantage over the weekend.

A win over his teammate Norris would help solidify his position at the top of the championship, which would come as quite the advantage at this stage of the season.
