Bryson DeChambeau was the second player ever to do this at The Open, not even Scottie Scheffler managed it

This incredible Bryson DeChambeau statistic from the 2025 Open Championship shows that he is capable of winning the competition.

He shot 78 to rule himself out of contention from day one, continuing DeChambeau’s poor form at The Open. However, the American battled back to finish T-10 at nine under, showing impressive grit throughout the weekend.

This stat shows just how well DeChambeau played in the final three days of The Open Championship to make for a respectable score come Sunday.

Bryson DeChambeau had the second-lowest-scoring final three days in The Open Championship’s history

He bounced back emphatically from Friday onwards to shoot the second-lowest final three days in this historic tournament’s history. The LIV Golf and YouTube star, DeChambeau, was bettered only by Henrik Stenson in 2016, who won the tournament.

Speaking on the Dan On Golf podcast, Dan Rapaport discussed DeChambeau’s performance. He said, “I was very curious to see how he’d fare, because in the past he’d struggled at The Open. The internet was very quick to dunk on him after he shot 78 on Thursday with no birdies.

“He then proceeded to shoot a 16-under, 197. That’s the second-lowest final three rounds in The Open, ever.”

Rex Hoggard said DeChambeau isn’t ready to win The Open, but his bounce back could have gone some way to changing his mind.

Conditions were tame after a blustery Thursday, which allowed DeChambeau to play his hard-hitting style successfully around Royal Portrush. Despite posting low scores, he didn’t prove that he can handle the conditions of links courses.

But he did prove that if he gets lucky with the conditions at The Open, he should be considered one of the favourites, especially if DeChambeau’s new golf ball works with the wind the way he wants it to.

Rapaport continued, “He still struggles in the wind, but this was absolutely a breakthrough. He showed me a lot this week, and Keegan Bradley confirmed in a text message to Sports Illustrated this week that Bryson is going to be on the [Ryder Cup] team, which is no surprise.”

After the tournament, that’s where DeChambeau turned his attention.

Bryson DeChambeau says Team USA is ‘tired of losing’ Ryder Cup, ‘This year’s no joke’

With Team USA captain Keegan Bradley naming DeChambeau for this year’s Ryder Cup, DeChambeau was asked about his thoughts ahead of the competition.

He said, “I hope I can bring a lot of energy, and a tsunami of a crowd that’s going to be rooting for Team USA.”

He revealed that Bradley left personal motivational messages in the lockers of some American golfers before The Open. He was fired up, “This year’s no joke. We’re tired of it. We’re tired of losing.”

The last Ryder Cup wasn’t just a loss for the Americans. It was an embarrassment. Europe jumped to a 4–0 lead in the opening foursomes on Friday morning, and by the end of Day One, Europe led 6½–1½.

They’re back on home soil this year and are out for revenge in front of their home fans.
