Fans are in agreement about Matt Fitzpatrick’s second round at the Genesis Scottish Open.

Fitzpatrick had a rocky start to 2025, with no finishes better than tied‑22nd in his first six PGA Tour events. However, after he and long-time caddie Billy Foster ended their six-year partnership in March, he began to regain form with two top‑10 finishes.

He returns home to the U.K. with high hopes for the upcoming Open Championship in Northern Ireland, and hopes to build form at the Genesis Scottish Open a week prior.

Watching Fitzpatrick with interest, fans all said the same about his second-round performance.

Fans recognise Matt Fitzpatrick’s resurgence at the Genesis Scottish Open

Fitzpatrick shot up the leaderboard with a score of 63 on Friday, leaving him in contention for the weekend.

Fans were happy to see the continued resurgence of the Sheffield-born golfer. One fan posted to X, saying “ Great day at the #GenesisScottishOpen as Fitz fires 7 birdies on a clean card. It’s brilliant to see the form continuing to improve.”

More fans shared their enthusiasm, one saying, “Matt Fitzpatrick on the charge, go on son”.

A fan recognised the Fitzpatrick resurgence as we head into the Open Championship, asking “Is Matt Fitzpatrick back?”

His 63 was a recovery from his opening round, where he recorded +1 on the front nine and -2 on the back to finish just one under. After a slow start, he’s rounding into form and chasing down the top of the leaderboard.

“After a poor finish to his opening 9 yesterday, he’s now bogey-free and -9 for his last 27 holes. His good form is building and hopefully he’ll be a factor here on Sunday.”

Fitzpatrick’s round also included giving a helping hand to a fellow player. Will Zalatoris fired his chip past the hole, but the ball stopped on Fitzpatrick’s ball marker to cling onto the green.

Fitzpatrick has a solid record on links courses, making him a true contender against the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler this weekend.

Rory McIlroy said he can ‘hide’ in Europe, allowing him to get away from the noise of the PGA Tour. To a lesser extent, perhaps that helps Fitzpatrick too.

He took a victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, where he claimed both individual and pro-am titles in 2023, and had a near-miss at this course in 2021.

Fitzpatrick finished runner-up at the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club. He lost out to Min Woo Lee in a three-way playoff, but proved that he can navigate this course effectively.

Rounding into form after a torrid start to the year, Fitzpatrick is hitting his stride at the perfect time to take a victory on home soil. Don’t count him out this weekend or next.
