This may be the most important season of Doncic’s NBA career. The LA Lakers gave Doncic the keys to the franchise this offseason, as LeBron James considers a move from LA. He was traded away by the Dallas Mavericks after leading them to the NBA Finals, and lost in the first round of the playoffs last season.
This year, it’s do or die for Doncic as he looks to lead one of the NBA’s most successful franchises back to championship glory. And fans noticed something about him in a recent video that should make the rest of the league “very afraid”.

A video of Doncic draining a long-range three at a workout has emerged, and NBA fans noticed that the Slovenian looks in incredible shape. Doncic has attracted criticism for his playing weight in recent seasons, and it was cited as a large reason for why Dallas traded him.
But now he looks back to peak condition. One fan posted to X, “Luka is in great shape! The league is in trouble.” Another noticed the same thing, adding, “Luka has lost a lot of weight.”
Fans were amazed that not only has Doncic returned to proper playing shape, he looks in a better condition than he has looked for his entire career. One fan said, “Luka Dončić is in the best shape of his life,” and another agreed, “Skinniest Luka Doncic I’ve ever seen.”
In response to Doncic getting back into shape, fans speculated that this may be an incredible season for him. He was not at his brilliant best when he was first traded to LA, but some fans predict an MVP season.

LA Lakers building around Luka Doncic
The Lakers are targeting the 2027 offseason to build around Doncic in free agency, according to reports. But they have made a start this summer.
Bringing in Marcus Smart from the Boston Celtics covers up some of his defensive deficiencies, and signing DeAndre Ayton gives Doncic a lob threat at the rim in the pick-and-roll, which is something he is exceptionally effective at.
If James stays in LA, they have arguably the best duo in the league, with two NBA all-time greats on the roster. It may not be the perfectly built squad, but it should be enough for the Lakers to be outside contenders for the title.
