Drake LOSES $300,000 after backing Jannik Sinner to defeat Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open

Drake posted on his Instagram that he wagered $300,000 on Sinner to win the 2025 US Open after he toppled Alexander Bublik in the round of 16.

This is not the first time Drake has put money on the outcome of the tournament, having unsuccessfully backed Taylor Fritz to win the tournament in 2024.

Thanks to Alcaraz’s comprehensive victory over the former World No. 1, the Canadian rapper lost his second US Open final bet in consecutive years.

Drake’s gambling habits have been of great pleasure to spectators, who have conjured up the Drake ‘curse’ after the star has frequently lost money.

The star famously backed Canada to beat Argentina in the 2024 Copa América, and the 2025 US Open final is another loss for the rapper.

Donald Trump delays the 2025 US Open final

Drake wasn’t the only major celebrity with a vested interest in the US Open final between Alcaraz and Sinner.

Donald Trump was in attendance for the final and it put the event into a tailspin due to the extra security measures in place.

Alcaraz and Sinner’s match was delayed due to fans’ inability to get into Arthur Ashe Stadium just minutes before it was about to start.

The president’s appearance, paired with the deluge of rain caused a closure of the roof, it was an eventful lead up to one of the biggest matches of the year.
