Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed his first time on the grass in 2025 as he achieved a straight sets victory against Adam Walton.

Much has been made of Alcaraz’s decision to jet off to Ibiza after Roland Garros, but the star was impressive in his first match at Queen’s Club.

Alcaraz, who has confirmed a doubles team with Emma Raducanu, was made to work for his victory but he did wow the audience in London.

The star sent a message to his rivals after picking up the win, which could suggest he’ll be a danger for Wimbledon.

Carlos Alcaraz is ready for grass court season after Queen’s win

Alcaraz was in buoyant spirits after picking up a victory in his first match on the surface and he made the now-trademark journey over to the camera to sign it.

The Roland Garros champion wrote a five-word message on the camera, which suggests he’s hoping for a successful time on the grass court.

“Grass season – here we go!”, the 22-year-old wrote after confirming his spot in the second-round at the London event.

In a truly heartwarming moment, Alcaraz had to check with the camera operator whether grass was spelt with one ‘S’ or two.

No matter his spelling, the star is clearly ready to pull up trees on the grass this year after winning Wimbledon two years in a row.

The star has an astonishing record on the surface since 2023, with his only defeat of note coming against Jack Draper at Queen’s in 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz explains his transition from clay to grass

Alcaraz survived a few scares against lucky loser Walton, but eventually won in two straight sets and he puts his performance down to rustiness.

“First match on grass [is] never easy to get used to the competition, get used to the grass,” explained Alcaraz to the BBC after his victory.

I’m really happy with the performance today, I feel great, a lot of things to improve and a lot of things to work on to feel more comfortable but in general I’m happy to get through,” continued Alcaraz.

Despite his victory, the Spaniard suggested he would like a bigger break between the two surfaces. “After the French Open it’s just a week to switch to grass so I don’t have too much time,” added Alcaraz.

He continued: “I would’ve liked to have more time to relax after the French.”

Alcaraz plays either Jaume Munar or Jordan Thompson in his second-round match on June 19.
