Dan Evans kicked off Queen’s Club in some style for the British contingent by picking up a deserved victory over World No. 13 Frances Tiafoe.

The World No. 199 was in inspired form as he raced to a 7-5 6-2 victory against the American on the grass.

Dan Evans’ victory against Frances Tiafoe was his first win over a top-20-ranked player since September 2023 and his first against the American since the Washington Open in August 2023, which the Brit went on to win.

Despite his superb victory, Evans declared himself ‘lucky’ to even be taking part at this year’s Queen’s Club Championships.

Dan Evans said he was ‘lucky’ to get a wild card for Queen’s 2025

Evans has not had one of his best years in 2025, struggling to find any big wins and free-falling through the ATP Tour rankings.

The British star was entered into Queen’s as a wild card, which is usually given to British players to help them build form and confidence at their home tournaments.

At World No. 199, Evans said he was fortunate to receive the wild card from the iconic British tournament after his win over Tiafoe.

“Thank you to the crowd,” said Evans in his post-match interview. “It’s always amazing to play here. I was lucky I got the wildcard to come out here.

Fellow Brits Billy Harris and Cameron Norrie were also given wild cards to play the London tournament. Harris plays Gabriel Diallo, while Norrie will come up against Jakub Menšík.

Who are the other Brits playing at Queen’s Club?

There’s five British players in action at Queen’s Club as they hope to play themselves into some form ahead of Wimbledon.

Wild card’s Norrie and Harris are not the only star’s lined up for the London tournament, with Jack Draper and Jacob Fearnley all in action.

Draper, Britain’s best hope for Wimbledon glory in 2025, is set to play American Jenson Brooksby in the first round, who qualified for the event under his protected ranking.

Fearnley, meanwhile, whose excellent year has seen him rise to World No. 49 in the ATP Rankings, will play Australian Alex Bolt.
