Daniil Medvedev joined an illustrious list with his impressive second-round victory at the Canadian Open.

The World No. 14 Dalibor Svrcina in straight sets to set up a third-round match with the 2024 Canadian Open winner Alexei Popyrin.

Medvedev has fallen away from the heights Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have set in the last year, but his latest win has seen the Russian join them with an impressive stat.

This is how the former World No. 1 joined elite company at the North American tournament.

Daniil Medvedev joins Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner with 70% win rate at ATP 1000 events

Despite his drop off in the rankings, Medvedev has proved time and time again he’s a force to be reckoned with at the big tournaments.

The 2021 US Open champion notched up a 70% win rate at ATP 1000 events after toppling Svrcina in Toronto.

That means the Russian has become only the third player born after 1990 to achieve the feat, alongside Alcaraz and Sinner.

This is largely down to Medvedev’s supreme form at the North American Swing events before the US Open, which saw him reach four consecutive finals at the hard court events.

Only Andre Agassi and Ivan Lendl had achieved that feat since 1995, and the Russian has yet again proved he belongs in esteemed company.

Danil Medvedev’s route through the 2025 Canadian Open

The Russian will be looking to earn another trophy at the Canadian Open, particularly with Alcaraz, Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Jack Draper missing from the Toronto tournament.

Medvedev is seeded number 10 at the tournament due to the number of dropouts, but it’s not made his life much easier.

A third-round win against defending champion Popyrin will likely earn him a fourth-round tie against Holger Rune.

Medvedev is also on the same side of the draw as Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud, and Lorenzo Musetti, so the Russian will need to be on top form if he wants to repeat his 2021 triumph at the competition.
