Emma Raducanu reached incredible heights when she won the US Open as a qualifier in 2021.
Raducanu became the first qualifier to win a major tournament as she announced herself on the grandest stage.
Fans and pundits speculated about Raducanu’s potential, with many predicting big things for the British star.
Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski tipped big things for Raducanu, which the star has failed to live up to thus far.

Greg Rusedski predicted World No. 1 status for Emma Raducanu
During Raducanu’s match with Maria Sakkari in the semi-finals, Rusedski took to social media to make a bold prediction about the British star.
The 1997 US Open finalist said: “This looks like the performance of someone who is going to be a World No. 1 and multiple Grand Slam champion.”
Raducanu’s success at the 2021 US Open was her only Grand Slam success to date, with the star failing to make it past the fourth round of any major tournament since.
While the star did crack the top 10 of the rankings in July 2022, that is as close as Raducanu has come to hitting the World No. 1 spot.
Raducanu is currently ranked World No. 46, and she’s the British No. 3 behind Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter.
Could Emma Raducanu still reach those heights?
Despite being a permanent fixture on the tour for four years, it’s worth noting Raducanu is still only 22 years old.
The British star has shown more promise in 2025, particularly with some impressive displays at Wimbledon and Washington recently.
Raducanu pushed Sabalenka to her limit at SW19, and she followed it up by beating Sakkari and Naomi Osaka at Washington.
While World No. 1 status might be a pipe dream, there’s every chance the star could win another major tournament.
Should Raducanu get seeded entry into the US Open, it could come as soon as the Flushing Meadows tournament in August.
